LotusSong -> How Did Elvis Do It? (9/3/2007 8:09:05 AM)

After an August of memorial programs and file footage of Elvis-  it hit me:

How did a heterosexual wearing pastel pantsuits get away without ever having his sexuality questioned? :)

Times sure have changed, eh?

Good PR.

I think his sexuality was questioned but not with regard to homosexuality.

He had a plan...

1. For the money
2. For the show
3. To get ready

The rest-----is history...

Ron

In his youth Elivs was all about sex. If he had been gay or a credible insinuation could have been made that he was it would have made those who didn't like him very happy.

For a feel for the sexy Elvis try and find a still or clip from his 1968 comeback TV special.

The pastel jumpsuits came later when he had been reduced to little more than a bad Vegas lounge act.

He stopped having normal sexual relations with wife Priscilla after her vaginal birth of their baby--he simply could not deal with the fact that "something" came down that passage way.

Priscilla was 14 when he asked her parents to let him marry her. Admittedly the marriage age with parental consent was probably 16 at that time but still...

How did Elvis do it? The King did it better than anyone before or since. Thank you, very much.

How did Elvis do it?  He established his sexuality long before the jumpsuits came along.  When they did, they were considered an eccentricity.

LaTigresse -> RE: How Did Elvis Do It? (9/4/2007 7:40:02 AM)

I think it was a sign of the times. I just look at all the other wacko things from the 60's and 70's. Beehive hairdos and pastel eyeshadow ewwwww. All things disco that followed.....big ick and ewww.

Edited to add.........people even thought Avacado Green or Harvest Gold were appealing colours to put in a kitchen!!

Alumbrado -> RE: How Did Elvis Do It? (9/5/2007 10:40:24 AM)

Obligatory colors, sadly.

Exactly.. on a timeline, look at what he and James Dean were wearing, then fast forward to what Elvis and the Beatles were wearing in the 70s.

Had he dressed like the Beatles in the '50s, he would have been Liberace...

Plus, by then, he had also developed a reputation for substance abuse and unpredictable use of firearms [8D]

He was a young male, not of a particularly notable intelligence, who was utterly lusted after by hordes of attractive  females, among others.

The true question is just how he died of an OD instead of an STD.  Seriously, what did he need drugs for?  Freakin' emo kid.

My parents bought a brand new home in 1971ish.  It was still under construction when they purchased it so Mom got to choose her colors for everything.  The kitchen had Harvest Gold appliances and avocado green tile on the floor.  The countertops were white formica with avocado green swirls running through it.  More green tile in the living area and in the bedrooms ... the same avocado green sculptured carpet that is still under my feet at this very moment.  Same light pecan paneling too.  At least the kitchen has been updated.  [:D]

Probably had a green Plymouth in the driveway back then too

That's what I took away from the visit to Graceland, particularly the business office in the back with the hall of music awards...all of that adulation and success for something most people pay to do as a hobby... WTF did he have to be so unhappy about that he needed to self medicate?

You know, i've been on the lookout casually for a BIG early 70's sled (particularly a '69-'73 Imperial, but there are a lot of runners-up) and finding one that isn't green, gold, or brown is a serious freakin' challenge!

GhitaAmati -> RE: How Did Elvis Do It? (9/6/2007 6:54:06 AM)

My first car was a 1966 malibu chevelle SS....the first thing I did was get it repainted....
