MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican President Felipe Calderon accused the United States on Sunday of stepping up persecution and abuse of undocumented Mexican workers with a crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Mexico was deeply disappointed at the U.S. Congress' failure to pass a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws in June despite heavy lobbying by the Bush administration. It is also upset at the United States for building a security fence on parts of the border to keep illegal immigrants out.

We GIVE them their rights here in the U.S.  The same rights as any other criminal that brakes the laws of the U.S.

Why is it that any other nationality, that wants to immigrate here, doesn't seem to have a problem with our laws?

And this jerk says "Mexico doesn't end at it's borders" ????  Does any other country have this kindof problem?

Many in Mexico considers California, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada as part of Mexico that was taken illegally by Americans over 160 years go.

And that is part of the Aztlan movement. The members of this movement believe they can "reclaim" their land by pushing illegal immigrants into that region in such high numbers that Latinos can win political office and eventually reunite the land with Mexico.

And La Raza (which translates to "the race") is lobbying congress to make all illegal aliens citizens.

What do you think would happen if a group of white people created an organization called "the race." I think many would have a serious problem with that. But no one seems to care when Latinos do it.

"Persecution", "Abuse", that's funny!
Maybe we should stop "persecution" and "abuse" of rapists and child molestors too?
Man, I can't WAIT till we get rid of Bush!

And I suppose Hillary, Obama, or Edwards will be better?

Hillary supports the Dream Act.

Cyber, do you think that *any* of those candidates has a snowball's chance in hell of becomming President?
Out of that sad lot Hillary Clinton will be the nominee for the Democrats. But, she's "unelectable."
Supporting the "Dream Act" is one reason that she's unelectable.
She also voted "for" Bush's Amnesty Bill in June.
Seeing as The American People *broke the Senate switchboard* with a massive amount of phonecalls why does she think she can win over The American People with supporting stuff like that?
Ninety percent of The People are against something so you go against them and expect to win?
One thing about Democrats, they're *very good* at losing.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Mexico's Calderon bashes US on immigration policy (9/3/2007 4:01:38 PM)

You are right that under normal conditions, candidates like Hillary do not stand a chance in winning. The problem is that people right now are not basing votes on the real issues. They are going to base their votes on sex scandals (Craig, Vitter, etc..) and the war in Iraq. That's it. That's all the voters care about right now. And the voters blame Republicans for both those problems. So they are going to turn to the opposite party thinking that will solve the problems.

If you look at the polls, Hillary is beating every single Republican head to head. And only 34% of voters said they plan to vote Republican next year.

Getting out of the Iraq war is the only thing the average person cares about. Domestic policy is irrelevent in this election.

Every country in the world that accepts U.S. immigrants deals with this issue ten-fold. Considering our country feels it is imperialistically superior to the rest of the world and it's citizens are pompous/arrogant/seemingly indifferent to other cultures. And our president wants to "Spread Democracy to the world", why is it so bad for Calderon to want to retain his people's culture? ....

LotusSong;
The U.S. would seem to have this kind of problem.  You might want to look at the "Monroe Doctrine"  the "Platt Amendment"  the acquisition of Hawaii.  The list is quite a bit longer but if you were to start with these you will see my point.  If it is OK for the U.S. to act this way why not other countries?

Perhaps if Mexico had taken half of the U.S. 160 years ago and did to the U.S. what the U.S. has done to Mexico, then a group called La Raza Blanca might have quite a following in this country.

Thompson,
There was a war. We won, they lost, we both signed a peace treaty. This was 160 years ago. The treaty is accepted law. The southwest is not Mexico anymore and it never will be.

time line:
1842...gold discovered in California
1844...U.S. offers to buy California for $30,000,000 Mexico refuses.
1846...U.S. attacks Mexico
1848...U.S. pays Mexico $20,000,000 for California,Arizona,New
          Mexico,Nevada,Colorado.Texas and parts of Utah,Nebraska
          Oklahoma.
Now if someone offers to buy your home and you refuse and this individual comes back and butt fucks you, your wife and daughter and puts his foot on your neck and a gun to your head and tells you to sign the deed and tosses you lunch money in return and tells you to get your ass out of his house.  I wonder if  you would be reasonable and move on with your life and never think twice about the injustice that was done to you.

How long did China wait to get Hong Kong back....how long till they take Taiwan back?

With that philosophy in mind.... maybe we should give the eastern seaboard back to the Brits. Give Louisiana back to the French. And Florida back to Spain.

Or better yet, give the whole country back to the Indians.

This is a flawed philosophy. Remember, the Mexicans were not the first on their land either.

As for giving the original thirteen colonies back to the Brits.  That was a war for independence and not one of aggression and aggrandizement.  As for giving Louisiana back to the French it would be make more sense to give it back to Spain since it belonged to Spain and not France.
Perhaps you should read a bit more about just how the U.S. acquired Florida.
Or better yet, give the whole country back to the Indians.
Since that is whom we stole it from in the first place some sort of accommodation might be a meaningful way of righting old wrongs.

This is a flawed philosophy. Remember, the Mexicans were not the first on their land either
Mexico got Mexico from Spain in a war for independence and not one of aggression and aggrandizement.
That the U.S. would discorporate is not likely but without an understanding of how this country was formed it is difficult to understand the position of those whom you castigate for their position in this matter.

If you look around the world...most people are not living on their ancestor's land. Over the course of history many groups of people have migrated or have been displaced for various reasons. This has happened in all parts of the world. War has changed borders.

Look at Europe. Look at how many times that map has been redrawn. Look at Africa. That map changes every day with all their civil wars.

cyberdude:
Japan,China,Russia,India,Spain,England, and France seem to be living on dirt that they have had for more than a thousand years...this would seem to be in excess of more than half of the people on the planet.  So much for your "most of the people in the world" theory.
Are you in favor of wars of aggression and aggrandizement?  If so, why don't you just say so and put your name in bold letters on the list of international thugs.
