my cousin found out she is pregnant not too long ago and through blood test she knows the exact date that she got pregnant.. the only thing is her and her boyfriend broke up like 3 days before she concieved, and she told me they hadn't "been intimate" for a week before they broke up. is it possible that the baby is his? (they got back together 6 days after she concieved and apparently neither of them remember that they broke up before she got pregnant)

I've never heard of knowing the exact date you got pregnant through a blood test!

it's through the level of hormones in your body.. i found out with my second daughter the exact day i got pregnant with her through bloodwork.. i had her on my exact due date too.. i did alot of reading about it (i'm a NA) and apparently the level of hormone doubles every 24 hrs that's how they know how far along you are within 1 day

I knew the EXACT date I got pregnant with my munchkin, it was easy enough to figure out, I kept a calander of when I had had sex, and the weekend of October 15th in 1999, I moved and my now exhubby helped me then was gone for a few weeks and on Halloween I was 'late' and had 12 pregnancy tests that were positive. I saw him that night and gave him a 'surprise.' As for a blood test, a blood test can ONLY confirm pregnancy, possibly give a 'window' of how far along, that would be my best guess, otherwise, its how honest is she being with you and with heself as to her exploits?! What ever happened to responsibility?!

she is underage and lives with my grandmother. she wasn't allowed to see her boyfriend during the week unless they had work (they used to work together) so the last time she saw him was a week before they broke up. the day she "concieved" she was with me and some friends at the fair.. she didn't see her boyfriend until the 5th of aug when they got back together. based on her ovulation calendar the 2 dates they had sex wouldn't have gotten her pregnant. they aren't just going by blood test they have also done 2 ultrasounds (she was having some problems) and they said that based on the levels which put her at 5wks 1 day pregnant and the ultrasound which put her at being 4wks 6days that she was 5 wks pregnant ( apparently using both is more acurate then using just one and the ultrasound is most effective in the first trimester)

Technology is great, but it isn't absolute. Also, conception doesn't occur immediately upon having sex. There is a window of opportunity, if you will ... "If you can pinpoint ovulation, then having intercourse up to at least 3 days prior to ovulation to 1 to 3 days after would insure possible conception. Having intercourse prior to ovulation insures that sperm will be present when the egg is released." "It is possible to ovulate twice in the same cycle, however it is rare. Occasionally a 2nd egg is released about 24 hours after the 1st egg. It can be beneficial to continue having intercourse for 2 or 3 days beyond ovulation."

what could have happened, is that the egg might not have been far down enough in the fallopian tube to be fertilized right away; semen can live in your body, and fertilize an egg, for a few days, which means you dont nessisarily have to become pregnant on the day that you had sex with your partner. id have to check the information to be totally aqurate, but its completely possible that your sister is having her partners child, despite the time gap between her having sex with him, breaking up, and getting back together. also, dont question or attempt to totally understand nature; what we know and accept as medical fact, doesnt always end up being total and complete FACT all of the time. who are we to say when EXACTLY mother nature will let us get pregnant? unless shes lying to you or is able to freeze time, then despite all the odds she was gifted with pregnancy. think of it as fate doing its thing. best of luck to her and your family!

Um, I'm working on becoming a midwife and you can only exstimate. Unless she was watching her ovulation it could be off. Human gestation is 38-42 weeks your due date is at 40weeks. Smack dab in the middle. Even due dates are scatchy. Thats the problem with modern Obstetrics, they are so hung up on dates that are impossible to pin point. If you believe it's an exact science and she was with you that day I would say it would have to be immaculate conception!! Further more you usually calculate your due date by the first day of your last menstrual cycle. Early ultra-sounds are the MOST accurate, that doesn't mean with out flaw. If her Ob is suggesting it's an exact date I would be running as fast as I possibly could. Also, every pregnancy is differnt, and Birth is a natural process, not a medical one, this early in the pregnancy I can't imagen any reason to be poked and proded that many times. Looks like a doctor is trying to milk medicadefor all it's worth (assuming she is on government mandated health care since she's a teen mother). On another note, You should buy her The Thinking Woman's Guide to a better Birth it's a great book, much better than what to expect while your expecting. As a teen mother myself, it is pertinent she arms her self with knolege about childbirth and pregnancy. Nurses and Doctors can be VERY unprofessional about things of that nature. I know from experince. Also if she wants more personal care with a more understanding health care professional she should look into midwifes. Ob's are big on interventions, and intervention can lead to alot of problems during childbirth. Mainly Because they are so over used. Which I guess would be a good explination to why we have a %33 c-section rate, and are 2nd from the worse of 1st world countries for mother, and baby injury and death during childbirth. This is gonna be a very stressful emotional time for her, don't press too hrad on the daddy issue stress is bad for her and the baby and could be the cause of the problems she was having. She may be underage but it is still her body and her life. It's is ultimatley up to her and her boyfriend to make desions regaurding her pregnancy. All the Best Casie ps I appoligize for any errors it's late and I'm in a hurry they went by her last period BUT that put her 3wks farther along then what she really is. they found that out when she went to the ER cause she was cramping really bad.. that's when they did an ultrasound and only saw the sac and the yolk sac. that's when they did the bloodwork to find out how far along she was cause they thought something might have gone wrong and the pregnancy had "ended" they came back with the hormone level saying that she would be 5 wks instead of 8 like the LMP said. (i've had 3 children myself so i know that going by the period doesn't work that great) they did the bloodwork again 2 days later to see what it said and it had doubled saying that she would have been in her mid to late 5th week. she is the reason they keep doing test and things.. she seems to think she is the only girl to get pregnant. she's been to the ER 2x in a week just for stupid things, that the Dr said if she was having all those symptoms that she would have to be 5 months along.

I worked in OB for 15 years. If I had a dollar for every time I got asked to play the "Who's the Baby's Daddy" game, I could have retired a whole lot earlier. let me see; some of the questions I got asked (over and over and OVER again): 1. If I tell you the day of my last period, can you tell me who's the baby's daddy? 2. If I tell you the days I last had sex with (A, B, C, or D) CYTMWTBD? 3. I had sex with two brothers, but one has type O blood, and the other has type A, CYTMWTBD? 4. Both my husband and I are Rh positive, but the doctor says the baby is Rh negative, and my husband is a long distance trucker, and he wants to know CYTMWTBD? 5. My boyfriend and I broke up three weeks before my period was due, but a week before my period, we got drunk and woke up naked in bed, and I don't remember what happened, but CYTMWTBD? 6 through 1000. (awww, heck, I am out of time. sorry. But the point is, unless she was absolutely monogamous for the past several months (yes, MONTHS, because menstrual cycles can be off, blood hormone levels can be abnormal due to problems with the pregnancy, etc), only a paternity test is going to answer this question absolutely. Anything else is about as accurate as consulting a crystal ball.) I hope everything goes well with her pregnancy. That is the main thing, that she and the baby end up healthy.

It is possible the baby is his. It is probable that it is hers.
