::snipped for brevity:: quote:
ORIGINAL: e01n 1. Substance exists and cannot be dependent on anything else for its existence. 2. No two substances can share the same nature or attribute. Proof: Two distinct substances can be differentiated either by some difference in their natures or by some difference in one of their alterable states of being. If they have different natures, then the original proposition is granted and the proof is complete. If, however, they are distinguished only by their states of being, then, considering the substances in themselves, there is no difference between the substances and they are identical. Discuss. Holy shit! This is way over my head. Damn you! I am now, but I wasn't always. Before substance, before idea of substance, there was nothingness. Therefore, I wasn't always. I may, now, be always, but I don't know. My now is determined by an external force. I am effected by that force so that force must, in fact, exist or I couldn't be effected by it at all. Since I am effected by an external force, I must, in fact, also exist or I couldn't be effected. I may even be later as I am now but I'm most certainly not now as I was then. My then was not determined by any external force. Well, not for the most part. There were, of course, exceptions. As I do exist now, I must, by elimination of the impossible, have existed then, (then as in after the idea and after the substance, not then as in before the idea and before the substance), as well even though the external force of now was not present then. My guess is that my later will be vastly different from my now. In my unknowing of my later, external forces may be a determining factor in my later. Who's to say? The future is too mutuable for me to go beyond this while the past is forever unchanging. That said, I don't understand what it all means, so can't possible agree with what I don't understand. What I do know is that we do, in fact, effect one another and that is the entire substance of my thought, you know, in a Master/slave sorta way. This hurts my head and then people wonder why I like to bleed. ::laughs:: ::skips off singing:: ~o/ Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but blood is so delightful and if we've no place to go.. let it flow, let it flow, let it flow. Celeste PS: I wanted to address Susan's comment on the stop sign issue. When I see a stop sign it's a symbol to stop.. But I have no idea if what I 'see' looks like an apple to you and it just manifests as the same symbol to stop. What I see as pink, you may see as magenta and yet we both call it green. Okay, I'm in need of Tylenol! ::laughs::
