ELUSIVE1 -> she has a great personality... (8/26/2007 5:55:51 PM)

I was having a phone conversation with a friend recently, said something funny and he said'you have a great personality'...and all I could think--'well isn't that just the kiss of death.'...what do you think when someone says 'oh, she has a great personality'...are you expecting the girl that shows up to look like 'jabba-da-hut' or do you take those words at face value???

Rule -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/26/2007 6:04:13 PM)

Did he say 'but...'?

ELUSIVE1 -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/26/2007 6:15:10 PM)

'Did he say 'but...'?

no-thankfully--and he didnt' say 'butt' either..and that is a subject I could go on and on about...

littlebitxxx -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/26/2007 6:25:53 PM)

Unless given cause to think otherwise, just smile and say "Thank you."  Maybe he meant it sincerely and there is no need to second-guess his thoughts.

Unlike most women, men usually really do say exactly what they mean. I'd take it as a compliment!!

bandit25 -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/26/2007 6:29:47 PM)

Yeah, I think that's mostly blind dates.

You seem to have some issues. So it is not the compliment that he made you, but your own self image that is causing you problems. Accept yourself and the problem will go away. Pick up the phone and tell him what attracts you in him.

windchymes -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/26/2007 6:39:31 PM)

If you asked him directly if he thought you were beautiful, and that's how he answered, then, yeah, it could be a problem.  Otherwise, just take it at face value.

deadbluebird -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/26/2007 7:10:40 PM)

I think people obsess too much about their physical apperence.
Someone telling you that you ahve a great personality, especially after making them laugh is not a bad thing.
When someone says you have a good personality it dosnt mean you don't have a pleasant appearence, if anything a good personality adds to a pleasing appearence.
On a side note, personally i'd rather hear that i have a good personality then a nice ass, or a pretty face, time and situations change the outside much more often than they change the inside.

ELUSIVE1:

You are reading way too much into that statement - take the compliment as it is.

Without a picture on your profile I can't tell if there is anything to be truly insecure about, but your overall stats read okay to me. I just glanced though...

FullfigRIMaam -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/26/2007 8:07:40 PM)

Yeah, I wouldn't like great personality without anything else great mentioned either...   But I don't think you should read anymore into it, unless this is someone you want, in which case perhaps you should get some cute clothes and get some flirting going on, so he'll notice the rest of you is hot.   M

Jules: I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.
Vincent: Ah, so by that rationale, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true?
Jules: Well we'd have to be talkin' about one charmin' motherfuckin' pig. I mean he'd have to be ten times more charmin' than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I'm sayin'?

I think that's even worse than "she has a great personality."   Being good enough to do unspeakable things to, oh my!   M

There are plenty of options here: one being that he wants to pay you a compliment without making it blatantly clear he is attracted to you.

Take it at face value, and bask in your great personality :-)

GhitaAmati -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/27/2007 8:17:55 AM)

I think this is mainly a southern thing...being called "nice"....or anyone saying "why, bless yer heart" is automatically assumed to be total kiss of death.....

Around a mouthful of apple (desk breakfast) I tried to say "No fuckin WAY??!?!?"

Wellllllll, I think I have been insulted on several occasions then............Ignorance is bliss....

Back to apple crunching.........

FullCircle -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/27/2007 8:23:09 AM)

If he says you’re attractive does it get taken as you have no personality or no brain?

What is the one compliment that no one will read more into?

e01n -> RE: she has a great personality... (8/27/2007 8:26:40 AM)

There's a definite double standard at work - but not a totally incomprehensible one in net effect.

I need someone with a great personality if I have any hope of being with them for any amount of time, even a quick 5 minute FnR... which means that it's never a quick 5 minute FnR.

I'll say someone has a great personality if they honestly do. And that's what I mean by it. I will also say "they have a great personality, in small doses" or it's ilk as a way of saying that I'll enjoy they're company on a very limited basis. As in, as I'm driving away from them quickly...

Anything else would simply be dishonest.
