I've had a lot of subs call me a "god" before.. so I know it's definitely a practice that is, at very least, not uncommon. I've also banned them from saying such a thing. The unfettered ego that comes with such an exaggerated title seems distasteful to me, to put it lightly. However sexist it may sound, I'm believe women just like compliments more. (Actually, men love them, too. We just cry silently when no one notices our new shoes.) In all seriousness, though, I'm not too sure why more Domme's seem to use divine titles. Hell, I've looked at some of the linked pro-Domme sites on here, many of which carry icons of divinity and supernatural things. I'm not too sure why this seems to be a female characteristic. I know it's not because only females get such compliments as I've also received them, and I'm pretty difficult to mistake for female. My best guess is either that it appeals to male subs more or that women are more prone to fish for or take compliments seriously. Maybe all three? I guess it's one of those things that isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Still, I must live up to my alias, no? :P
