A single mother had a meeting she had to attend one day.  She couldn't find a babysitter in time, so she had to take her 2 year old son with her to the meeting.

She packed everything up, and brought the little boy into the confrence room.  She sat him on the floor, gave him a snack and some of his toys.  Then the meeting started.

The meeting lasted for 2 and a half hours, and not once did the little boy cry, or disrupt her for any reason, throughout the entire meeting.

When the meeting was over, she wanted to let her son know how proud she was of him.  She said to him "for being so well behaved during the meeting, you can have ANYTHING you want."

As the boy put his finger to his chin and looked up to think about this option, his mother thought they might end up spending a day at the petting zoo, or going to Mc Donalds for dinner.

He continued to think about his options while they walked out to the car.  They got half way down the hall and the little boy put his finger up in the air and said "Mommy, I've got it!!! How about a kiss?"

Y'kmow, people are just so busy with politics now.

I just dropped in to say that's cool, because nobody else apparently has the time to say "that's cool".

I think I see what you see in that. The unabridged desire of a child, uncorrupted by materialism. The best thing in life he can think of is human touch of someone he loves.

Damn shame we grow up ain't it ?

This just in : (I just thought of it)

If I were the Mother I would tell the kid kisses don't count, he can have as many as he wants.

I’ve not seen a child that could sit still and be quiet in a foreign environment such as an office for two hours. Nor have I seen one uninfluenced by TV advertising in some way.

Nice sentiment though.

Dark side what on earth are you on about?

I’m a realist and in my opinion the story seemed a bit far fetched. I’m not sure why you have to try and make a big drama out of it. Children are curious about their environment and they don’t generally sit still for long.

The negative interpretation of my comment is all yours.

What a great story -- thanks for posting it.  Definitely one that needs to be shared and it made me smile.

I had my two young nephews in the car with me once heading to their home after a visit to the park.  They were hungry and tired and on the fasttrack to whiney mode so, to distract them, I asked them what they wanted to eat and I suggested worms on mud bread.  This led to giggles and suggestions of squashed spiders, grilled beetles, etc....but my oldest nephew won the competition when, after a brief silence, he shouted "Boogey Sandwiches!"

Ok..not as lovely as your story, but at the time it cracked me up so much I just pulled into the nearest McDonalds.

This reminds me of when my boys were approx. 2 & 4, and they were playing some little game in the living room while I was doing dishes or something.  I heard the older one announce that "the prize is A Kiss From Mom!"  and every few minutes one of them, apparently the winner of that round, would run into the kitchen for their prize.

Just one of my sweet memories

um...actually wasn't refering to you, was refering to life in general...nor did I mention your name....so I believe the drama is yours..and just because you never experienced something doesn't mean it couldn't happen

What an awesome story.

I have a rule in my house.  No matter what I'm doing, no matter how busy or irritable or tired I am, no matter if they ask every 5 minutes, kisses and hugs are always free and never refused. Once my 6 year old kissed me 27 times in one hour.

Thank you for that story.  I actually searched her out for a kiss before responding.  Although, I want to know your friend's secret because none of my kids could have sat still for 5 minutes much less 2 hours!!!!!!!

ps drkjourney - LOVE your avatar!!!

lol if you say so.

If it wasn’t me then who was it because everyone else has said what a wonderful story before my post. Why even mention a dark side nobody else did.

So sorry if you were just randomly bringing up cynical people rather than directing a comment at me. It would be nice if people stood by what they said and not try to wiggle out of it later.

I could have been more emotive and said “why do parents expect their children to act like adults and not be an inconvenience to them?” Screaming children on trains annoy me but then I step back and think they are children and they are supposed to act this way. Personally I would rather see children running about than sitting alone quietly but that’s just me I suppose.

nope, not only you....I totally agree

for instance I have a receptionist that has a 1 year old....she's always saying that she's "stuck" with him.....I could just smack her...he's a wonderful normal baby.....the mom is the one that needs a time out....lol

children should be children....you don't take them to a 4 star restraunt and expect for them to be little angels...take them to chucky cheese so they can be themselves
