So, after attending a munch with discussions on how to tie knots I decided to try a little rope bondage on someone.  Last weekend I zipped on over to the hardware store, bought 100 ft of rope that seemed suitable (reasonably thick and reasonably soft), then after getting home I cut the rope into four equal lengths and spent the next hour learning to tie two types of knots so that I could bind my partner quickly.  I used a knot known as the "French bowline" used as cuffs for the limbs and the "prusik" used to secure each rope to my bedposts. Incidentally, I got information on how to tie knots off a web page and therefore the names of the knots may or may not be accurate. In any case the knots worked as advertised and what is beyond any doubt was a very Yummie experience.  It was a lot of fun inspired by others who play with rope regularly.   Thanks!

Good to hear!
Be warned it can become addictive!  Then just when you get all the knots and ties down pat,  you see a tie constructed without knots and it all starts again.

You've got to love bondage!

In today's world, the wide array of restraint devices to choose from is incredible, but I'll stick to my opinion that nothing is more beautiful than your loved one in intricate rope bondage. Enjoy!!!

The other link posted appears to be the same as the "French bowline"

That is where I started (leather cuffs and such), but the fun thing about rope is knowing how to tie up your partner.   It's more loving.

Also, if you ever find that you need to tie up an evil villain while you wait for the authorities your skills will be honed. he he . None of this wiggling out of the bonds or tipping over the chair.

I can't wait to try it with Tacs.[;)]

Yes, rope is fun, whether its spreadeagled on the bed or full blown shibari. But the best ropers I know rarely use anything more complicated than a basic square knot, and the ever important bowline. And remember, knowing how to untie them is just as important.

Knots are great, though maybe it's a matter of the way that I've learned, but I tend to think less about knots and more how the rope is interacting with the person's skin. Or maybe it's because I was never a boyscout, and I'm more involved with artistic bondage than more restrictive dominance bondage or suspension. Unless I am playing with a particularly feisty escape artist, most of my knots are fairly slippery so I can adjust things quickly, and reduce the risk of having to break out the emt shears should they need out with a quickness. :P So far I haven't run into that situation, thankfully. Knock on wood.

In any case, here's a few resources that you might find useful as well:

http://www.ropelover.com/ - I've really enjoyed Bridgett's work for a long time, and I'm quite glad that she still makes a point of having good info available via the YahooGroup...

http://ms.ha.md.us/~tammad/over21/bondage/ - Tammad... what I can I say about him that doesn't turn into a eulogy? Very helpful to me when I was first starting out.

http://www.kikkou.com/learn/shichiseki.htm - Another "old school" site with tutorials in English by Mai Randa and Sikou Sima, but pretty limited. But what *is* there makes some general principles of the aesthetic clear.

But what has proven to always be the most effective way of learning for me is to experiment. Learned one tie? Great! Look at it and how it works, then ask yourself how else it could be used. Then try it - on yourself, if possible. Nothing keeps you humble like seeing how far you are away from some of the amazing artists (and that's what they are), but how you might be able to observe, adapt, adopt and incorporate. It'll also keep you from doing too many stupid things that you're not ready for...

but in all of it, HAVE FUN!

Easier said than done for sure. I've gotten self tying a shinju down to a science at this point, however. ^_^

I am so happy for you ... rope is wonderful stuff ... I am sure my time away from its tender touch will only make the next experience all the sweeter lol.

have fun

I LOVE rope!!!!  ;)

earthycouple -> RE: Tried Rope Bondage last weekend (8/23/2007 8:06:03 PM)

you all are just begging for my input again aren't ya!?!

Rope is hot.  Bound bodies are hotter.  It's art in a very pure form for me.  Everytime you can make it unique and special to your situations.

Enjoy!
