DON'T FOLLOW GOVERNMENT ORDERS BLINDLY IN A CRISIS

Renowned primitive skills teacher Larry Dean Olson was interviewed by Tom Brown (of Tracker fame) some time ago. Olson revealed something about how government bureaucrats think when crises get beyond their puny powers to "manage" the crisis: "[T]he state of Washington hired me to come to Seattle one year to be part of a think tank. And the challenge for that year was to find ways to evacuate the people of Seattle if there was an atomic bomb threat on the shipping yards and the military base that's there. [Sadly, none believe that's a possibility anymore.] They were trying to figure out how to get the people across those bridges off the sound and up over the mountains into those valleys beyond the mountains where they would be safe from fall-out [not true -- the fallout would go in that direction. This shows how stupid the civil defense people were from the start]. We had three days to sit and think and talk and there were four or five other men there that were brought from around the country.... But we came up with an evacuation plan. After the civil defense people read our evacuation plan, they decided that the people in Seattle had reached such a state of helplessness that there would be no point in rescuing them. Their conclusion was, and there's official documentation on it even to this very day, 'eal the bridges and leave them there. They wouldn't know what to do when they got them to safety.' So they said, 'tell everybody to just stay in your homes. That's the answer, trust us.'" [End of quote.] No, DON'T TRUST THEM! Think for yourselves and prepare in advance.

This is why, when I hear the bomb is on it's way, I'd rush to the ground zero with my lounge chair and strawberry Margarita and embrace the light.  The living  will have hell afterward.  The dead will be envied.

So Seattle is a possible intended target and the government have investigated a maximum kill scenario, just like those Pentagon drills and the rehearsals for an attack on the WTC towers; and Katrina New Orleans, of course.

Did you know that there was a subway attack simulation running at the same time as when the attack on the subway in London occurred?

They aren't stupid--they're evil.

Especially since 2001, U.S. government has been about how to look good, and they don't care how many people die as long as they think in the end the government will come off well.

They don't want to solve problems--they want to win!

Trouble is--this administration also wants to win cheaply. Hurricanes, insurgents, crumbling bridges--damned annoyances, especially when your disaster plan is to hope nothing will happen while you're still in office.

9/11 is the best thing that could have happened to Bush/Cheney and crew, and boy did they run with it.

Makes me sick. Not to mention finishing the destruction of our legal system.

Drills taking place on the London Underground are nothing new. In 1987 there was a major fire due to a discarded cigarette and the drills have been more commonplace since then. Peter Power, director of the firm running the drill mentioned, was the police inspector on duty then Three years before he was travelling on the underground when a fire broke out on his train. He led many people to safety. He left the police in the 90s to start up a risk management company.

So Peter Power started that fire on the train and the later one in the subway and in some way was responsible for those bomb attacks. Interesting.

I can't comment much about how the Feds are dealing with disaster situations in other parts of the country, but when it comes to FL, FEMA definitely does NOT take the lead in disaster related cleanup or evacuations. They are invited by the state's EOC to participate in an advisory capacity and to administer the paperwork processes for the federal portion of cleanup, both in materials and financial reimbursement, but under no circumstance does FEMA run the operations. The state of FL, and many of the local governments within the state, take the lead simply because this state has had a long history of storm-related disasters and has their stuff together in dealing with calamaties of this nature.

After the federal debacle of Hurricane Andrew in 1992, localities and counties all throughout Florida evaluated, drew up plans, tested, and when necessary executed disaster plans that have become the model that many other places in the country are looking at.

During the 2004 hurricane season, when four hurricanes blanketed most of the state with destruction (Charlie, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne), it was the state and local agencies that quickly -- as soon as the winds dropped below 40 mph sustained -- responded with emergency medical, supplies, and shelters. By the time the feds rolled in (almost a day later in some locations), the recovery was already handled in a such an orderly process that the FEMA reps couldn't believe it.

Was FL's response perfect? Not exactly, but all the disaster recovery experts agreed that it was about as perfect as it could be in such events.

So, I don't abide by "the feds know best" and I don't think that any self-thinking individual should. Preparations for such disasters, whether man-made or natural, begin with each individual taking responsibility for their own and their family's well-being before, during, and after such emergencies. If every one did that, there wouldn't be the Katrina-type recovery that, in many respects, was an embarassment.
