For those who dont know: Sensory deprivation is the deliberate reduction or removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. Simple devices such as blindfolds or hoods and earmuffs can cut off sight and hearing respectively, while more complex devices can also cut off the sense of smell, touch, taste, thermoception (heat-sense), and 'gravity'. Sensory deprivation has been used in various alternative medicines and in psychological experiments, and for torture or punishment.
Though short periods of sensory deprivation can be relaxing, extended deprivation can result in extreme anxiety, hallucinations, bizarre thoughts, depression, and antisocial behavior.

I have had many good experiences with SD, but I came to hear from you my peers. Masters/Doms what techniques do you or have you used/ with what results? slaves/subs what techniques have you experienced and/or been subjected to/ with what results?

My favorite technique as been where I blindfold and remove their sense of balance by either having them stand on a board swing, suspended on a pole or balance board.  I found the board to be the most successful to remove their sense of balance.  The general result.. Alot of Fun!

I keep it simple... just a blindfold and a pair of headphones while suspended and I rock them gently back and forth if they are suspended horizontaly to create a slight sense of confusion.  The sound I use is generally a nature sound.  I then usually do some kind of texture play so not really sure if this is what you are looking for.

*Entire day perks up at the mention of this personal favorite*

I ADORE using a blindfold and earplugs on my subs. I love keeping them off balance and never knowing where or what is coming. *shivers delightfully* It, of course, enhances all tactile sensation. *grins widely* ok gotta stop thinking about this topic now....

Sure this is what I am looking for. I want to see things from a new point of view and hear about other peoples techniques and experiences thanks everyone for sharing.

I have a table that has a box at the end...its the
best for SD...they cant see or hear, the box has a solid top with a hole for air so they have that feeling of not enough air.
Pallet wrap them to the table and their skin feels weird on top
of it all....

Simple things are blindfolds and earplugs.

I love to use scents when they are blindfolded...vanilla,cinnamon,lemon juice
sweet smelling oils and then when they least suspect it hold up something that smells horrible and watch them jump...NOTE make sure submissives cant fall over when they jump...lol

I feel that while total SD has its place to be sure, I have also found that limiting one major sense (sight, hearing, tactile and or movement)at a time can have a wonderful effect on the other sences. In other words, a blindfold/hood/mask OR ear plugs. While blinded what the sub hears becomes all the more intense and visa versa allowing you to effectivly place the sub into an "auditory space" or "visual space" respectivly. Partial SD allows one to extend the amount of time the SD can go on as well. For earplugs I use the little orange ones that fit right in and in an already quiet environment this is often fine however sometimes this is not effective enough and I will use "shooting earmuffs" at the same time, this is very effective.

I also play with overload, synaesthesia, and general sensory attention shifting. So many of these aren't strictly deprivation and some aren't mono-modal.

For visual: blindfolds, enclosed dark glasses, absence of corrective lenses, dark room, hypnosis, NLP

For auditory: ear plugs, shooting ear muffs, audio masking, play under water, hypnosis, NLP, also ear phones, piping in amplified versions of the room, etc.

For kinaesthetic: slow spins on turn tables, swings, slings, suspension, these tend to mask inner ear balance. topical anaesthetics, mummification, palette wrap, saran wrap, duct tape, blankets, etc, for general skin sensation coverage. Wet suits and the like can also work similarly. Hypnosis, NLP.

If I knew anything about ingestible psychoactives I probably wouldn't discuss them here. There are, however, several that I'm interesting trying and/or learning more about. (I think I can say that without violating the tou).

ETA: also hoods, bags, body bags, etc. And plain old functional bondage, (proprioceptive deprivation).

I think it is really my fave to mainly enhance tactile perception, because I just live to torment. I am very "touchy" (hands, mouth, body parts, toys, tools, whips, floggers) so I think that has been my main focus, but I have also done things to block hearing and tactile sensation, plus bondage, and made them only have their eyes, and then try to gradually overload them with visuals. It was very interesting and fun. I am no heavyweight with this though, by any means.

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a field of study and a set of practices concerned with positively modifying behavior, particularly through psycho-linguistic techniques. Its theoretical foundation draws on a range of disciplines, including various psychological fields, linguistics, cognitive science and occupational therapy. Invented by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970's as a method of personal development, NLP has since been elaborated and reconceived in divergent forms by its practitioners and adherents, making it a diffuse field resistant to a single comprehensive definition.
Despite its popularity, NLP continues to be controversial, particularly for use in therapy, and after three decades of existence, remains scientifically unvalidated. NLP has been criticized for lacking a defining and regulating body to impose standards and a professional ethical code and for being pseudoscientific.
**************************************************************************************************
Synesthesia (also spelled synæsthesia or synaesthesia, plural synesthesiae or synaesthesiae)—from the Ancient Greek σύν (syn), meaning "with," and αἴσθησις (aisthēsis), meaning "sensation"'—is a neurologically based phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. In one common form of synesthesia, known as grapheme → color synesthesia, letters or numbers are perceived as inherently colored, while in ordinal linguistic personification, numbers, days of the week and months of the year evoke personalities. In spatial-sequence, or number form synesthesia, numbers, months of the year, and/or days of the week elicit precise locations in space (for example, 1980 may be "farther away" than 1990), or may have a three-dimensional view of a year as a map (clockwise or counterclockwise).
While cross-sensory metaphors (e.g., "loud shirt", "bitter wind" or "prickly laugh") are sometimes described as "synesthetic", true neurological synesthesia is involuntary. It is estimated that synesthesia may be as prevalent as 1 in 23 persons across its range of variants (Simner et al. 2006). Synesthesia runs strongly in families, but the precise mode of inheritance has yet to be ascertained. Synesthesia is also sometimes reported by individuals under the influence of psychedelic drugs, after a stroke, or as a consequence of blindness or deafness. Synesthesia that arises from such non-genetic events is referred to as adventitious synesthesia to distinguish it from the more common congenital forms of synesthesia. Adventitious synesthesia involving drugs or stroke (but not blindness or deafness) apparently only involves sensory linkings such as sound → vision or touch → hearing; there are few if any reported cases involving culture-based, learned sets such as graphemes, lexemes, days of the week, or months of the year.
Although synesthesia was the topic of intensive scientific investigation in the late 1800s and early 1900s, it was largely abandoned in the mid-20th century, and has only recently been rediscovered by modern researchers. Psychological research has demonstrated that synesthetic experiences can have measurable behavioral consequences, while functional neuroimaging studies have identified differences in patterns of brain activation (for a review see Hubbard & Ramachandran 2005).
Many people with synesthesia use their experiences to aid in their creative process, and many non-synesthetes have attempted to create works of art that may capture what it is like to experience synesthesia. Psychologists and neuroscientists study synesthesia not only for its inherent interest, but also for the insights it may give into cognitive and perceptual processes that occur in everyone, synesthete and non-synesthete alike.

Synesthesia is also useful for creating some more interesting effects like enervating a dildo, or rather, giving someone an entirely different penis complete with sensation.

I wrote a paper on this over a decade ago, I could probably dig it out. It might even be on google.

Blindfold, earplugs or headphones, teething cream in the tongue and mouth, mummification, suspension. I played with one gentleman who had earplugs cast to his ears to be more effective--that was fun. Closeting, although that's not so much sensory deprivation as it is isolation. Sense dep isn't a big fetish for me in its own right--mostly, it's helpful to aid and augment other activities.

Sounds lovely. I would add hands bound above the head and having someone trying to balance on a thick diameter pole under their feet. One can attack from any angle and the combination of trying to keep their balance and figuring out where the attack is coming from next is priceless. Mmmm.
