I'm actually not a big fan of Chomsky. He's a smart guy and on principle I agree with a lot of what he says. He doesn't offer a lot of solutions though, and seems a bit niave at times.

And when the will of the american people is to round up Japanese citizens and place them in camps?

Plenty of other examples of how Democracy in a pure form can lead to tyranny of the mob.

In 1942, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order #9066, allowing military authorities to set up restricted zones and remove "aliens" from those zones. Most American citizens who happened to have Japanese ancestry had 10 days to close up their businesses and homes. Over 100,000 were loaded on trains and buses and sent to assembly centers and then on to larger camps were built in "safe" rural areas of Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming. Estimates of the value of property confiscated from Japanese Americans ran as high as $400 million.

i think the solutions are masked by way of the direction he takes conversations if you know what i mean?

I think he's very impressive; I've watched him in countless discussions/debates and I'm yet to see anyone measure up.

I once paid money to go and listen to him at Manchester University, and I can't think of any other world affairs commentator who I would queue up to listen to what he has to say.

Whether or not you think social anarchism is a possibility is besides the point: this man's knowledge is legendary, and he must have some research team; I've yet to hear anyone refute his version of events. He puts his facts upfront to be shot down, and they are always cast iron.

He once agreed to be interviewed by the BBC journalist, Andrew Marr, who has a sound reputation. It was obvious from the start that the BBC team had pretty much set Chomsky up for a fall, because Chomsky had stated the BBC swerved the real issues relating to the actions of the British government. Marr started off all guns blazing: within seconds Chomsky made him look like an amateur and completely dominated the discussion. He told Marr things about the BBC that Marr didn't have a clue about, and Marr was simply left floundering and grasping thin air.
