I thought the ending was fantastic. I'm a bit sad it's over.

It was incredible. I won dinner from a friend coz I was right.   I read it over a few days, so it could sink in and make deductions on my own. Definatly worth the wait and the read.

I thought the last book was better than all 6 combined but I'm so sad to see it come to an end. It was one of my favorite series and my Owner loved it as well. It's a shame because there are so many avenues of other story lines she could have made into other series and I'm sure she won't let any other writers have the rights in order to continue any other story lines. I know some authors have let others continue their work but I don't ever see that happening in this situation.

Well, it was alright but i think book six was the best. The first half of DH dragged terribly and I think Snape got a much worse ending than he deserved. Also, I think Rowling was terrible to the Hagrid fans, after all making them think He'd died twice, that was cruel. The epilaugue was a bit weak too.

I was very dissapointed with the entire book. It was slow, unimaginative, and badly written. Characters became two-dimensional, and the whole thing read like JK Rowling had completely lost interest in the series and was just writing to please the fans. What should have been a book packed full of action and emotion became trash. I really wish that my copy had been left as a tree.

I was particularly disapoointed that Neville and Luna got barely any mention, since up until this point they had been key characters and I was expecting something quite spectacular from them. Ron was a git, as always. Hermione had what could have been an interesting story, but Rowling decided to simply brush over the fact that she'd made her parents forget that she ever existed (something quite amazing, magically and emotionally, I think). Harry was... a jerk, to be honest. He was selfish. This was a war... and he spent most of hiding in a tent, not helping anybody. No doubt many people in the magical community would have thought Harry had deserted them.

The ending was messy. I still can't figure out who died, and who "died". The explainy-bits at the end were too long and complicated, and completely destroyed the momentum.

I'm torn about the epilogue. On one level, I thought it was the most cliche trash ever. Harry was indeed exactly like his father, as Snape had always said. On another level... I think there's more going on than you can see at first glance.
"A great number of faces, both on the train and off, seemed to be turned towards Harry.
'Why are they all
staring, demanded Albus.'" (p607)
Does this suggest that no one has told the children about the war? I think (or is it hope?) it implies that the war had damaged Harry emotionally to a degree where he refuses to think/hear about anything that happened. All this behind-the-scenes stuff is what JK Rowling should have written about.

Rumours of releasing the entire outline and sketches - I would guess the background would be in that -

Neville was in school, like Luna apart from the kidnap- (daaaa) - so they really wouldn't get much of a mention.  But Neville did pull through in a BIG way..... the tent was a 'journey' (yeah cliche maybe) - and did you even get and understand the christlike sacrifice ?

I don't believe it was as crap as you mentioned.  My 15 year old understood the entire book and understood who died. He thought it rocked.  Maybe ya just need the intelect.

Don't knock the Potter...

Are you implying that I'm stupid because I didn't enjoy a book? Yes, I understood that sacrifice, and the rest of it - and I still thought it was a let down.

i loved the Potter series and felt that the final chapter in this amazingly talented work of art came full circle.Neville and Luna did shine, outstandly so infact. W/we have to remember that even though they have been important second storyline characters, they are just that, Second storyline characters . Yes, Harry was selfish and did run, but think about it, J.K. made sure that W/we remember that Harry is indeed still a boy. Doing a man's job , yes,, but still a boy. i hate comparing Harry to Jesus , but in this story He is indeed the antichrist. Did God answer all of the questions that Jesus had no rhyme or reason for? Or did He indeed let Him find His way on His own? The story dragged in parts , i also agree, but let's face it, the boring details did have to be told. It sadly happens in every storyline. The one disapointment that i could not get past was that Hermione was just plain BORING (YAWN) in this the final chapter.
But as we all have our own opinions, these are mine. i respect all who have theirs. Just as a note tho, my special education students completly understood this novel, Picked it clean apart and loved it . The imagination of JK completly facinated them. They are not learning disabled , they are emotionally disturbed , so their intellect is not in question.
Be well A/all.

I did greatly enjoy the book except for the chapters in the tent which seemed unnecessary except to make sure the book lasted for the whole school year.

Hermione was poorly handled in this book. She is supposed to be by far the most accomplished witch or wizard of the three but she spends most of this book as simply the porter for her purse.

I had the Snape/Lily connection figured out well before the book but still enjoyed that aspect of the story.

I would have much preferred if Neville had finished Beatrix but in the end he was a hero. Did anybody catch the explanation of why he had been such a mediocre wizard before the battle in the ministry? I thought it was a nice little wrap to an important plot point.

I heard something that I would like confirmed or denied. And yes, the answer would be a spoiler.

Does Harry Potter die and somehow get resurrected in the last book?

That's all I want to know, but feel free to embellish if you think more information adds to the bare bones answer.

TIA.

On another site, someone described the Harry Potter books as "sturdy," something that resonated with me.  I've read all the books and enjoyed the development of the characters over time (and, let's face it, Harry Potter has gotten pretty hot in the latest movie), but there are things that J.K. Rowling doesn't do particularly well.  She's good at action, but not good with emotional shading and motivation.  There are characters who died and I didn't feel a sense of loss about that, which I feel is odd.  I don't think Rowling does a great job creating an empathetic bond between the reader and characters.

The most satisfying book for me was the one that ended with Dumbledore talking about the power of love.  I was excited to see how she would develop that theme.

This book felt very anti-climactic.  It tied up loose ends and brought the long, long saga to a conclusion, but it did not feel as fresh and it did not challenge me.  Essentially it felt like a very long farewell.  The epilogue ... unnecessary.  My most pressing question was ... where was Snape coming from??  I was glad to get the answer, but the way it was handled was a little flat for me.  There was no tension there.

I really really enjoyed it. I'm impressed with how she handled the whole Harry Potter dying situation. I thought that was really interesting. especially after people were so split about wether he would die or not.

Yes, well sort of .He had to let LV kill him with no attempts to save himself or deflect what was happening, and LV didindeed do a killing curse, but Harry's sacrifice kept him from death.

Overall I was disapointed in this book, I do love however, how once Kreacher was shown kindness he became a very differnt house elf, and was in fact crucial in some parts of coming to Harry's aid.

I cried very very bitter tears when dobby was killed off. The elp was rather likeable. Plus I am a sap I cry during sad parts of books, and movies.

I'm not so sure about that.

Harry was protected by the Elder Wand and the fact that his mother's protection was part of LV, making him sort of a Horcrux for Harry. Although with Harry being a Horcrux means he needed to be destroyed in order to make LV vulnerable.

Being hit by the killing curse certainly knocked him out and let him have his little chat with Dumbledore but was he dead? I just don't think so.

Dobby and Hedwig's deaths were the hardest for me. Although Colin Creevey was a shock as well.

Hedwig's and Dobbie's deaths were hard. I was most shocked by Fred getting killed. Unlike the movies the twins played a great role and it's contemplating George going on alone that's tough.

Why the f*ck would you hope Harry would be emotionally crippled for life by defending the world against evil?
