The search option for collarme.com is great.  I was just thinking wouldn't it be great if you could search/sort by distance from you.  I am always looking to meet people but I'm interested in RT for the most part.  I have found a lot of good people but when it comes time to practicality it just isn't going to work.  I realize you can search by city but there are so many small cities its impossible to recognize them all.  I find myslef opening up a tab for google maps all the time.

Anyone else think so?

BTW this may be in the wrong place.  I couldn't find an appropriate location for this thread.

A distance search option is a great idea!  But if folks are honest about there towns or general areas, you can easily make do without it, and being able to just look at profiles and email with paying money is awesome.

Actually, implementing a zip code-only distance function could work, but still maintain some anonymity as to the exact location. But the problem comes in when trying to extend that outside the US... There's existing code for implementing it in PHP and on RoR that can be cannibalized.

I'd like to see it, even on a limited basis.

First thing, you would have to resolve Accra, Georgia, somewhere.

I would like to restrict my search to north america, that would be a start.

Yeah zip code basis was what I was thinking.  Were you the one that was saying all the pics we post and content could be canabalized to google and such?  Becaue they didn't have a anti-crawler code in the php.  IDK much about php did more the html and graphics design myself.

actually, there are many companies that put out geo/ADI/zip/long/lat data, (melissa data is one that comes to mind) and the calc on delta from lat.long is rather trivial.

I have built a few of them myself but not in PC languages, although they wouldn't be anything rough to do.

Well, my suggestion that there are existing web apps built that can easily be integrated into the existing CM site code was simply for the admin folks... It's *real* easy to do, but when it already exists and is pretty easy to just add on... And since this site seems a bit LAMP, I suggested 2 languages that are very LAMP friendly.

Oh, of course I concur.  I was just babbling because ---well just because. As you say those APIs are fairly ubitquious.

Thanks for adding the feature.  That didn't take long at all.

even though people lie all the time about this one...i would like to see relationship "status" included for profiles...and include owned/collared/poly/etc besides just single, married, swingers...etc
