this heatwave is getting worse and it's nearly dangerous to even step outside. what do you do to stay cool in this heat?

I lay on my bed naked under the ceiling fan with a damp towel over me.

Do you have a largeish fridge? Step inside.

Is there a beach or a swimming pool by you? Step inside.

Last resort: if you have a shopping mall. Step inside (I know this solution sucks, that's why it's absolutely a last resort one).

Good luck: I was always a winter lover (comes from having 'roots' in Transylvania, drooooool), but as I get older I dislike the heat more and more. I sympathise.

Went in the hot tub and had my electric blanket on last nite, cold here.

Put a bowl of ice behind your fan...cools the air just as it's being sucked in to blow over you.

Oh michael, I do feel sorry for you... think of cool and cold things. Mind over matter seems to help, in desperate situations.

Get naked, if you can't do that go as naked as you can.  Drink lots of water.
Think about the winter when you just wish you could be warm.

I have my fan in my living room, and one in the bedroom.  I avoid the air conditioner at all costs, since the noise annoys me. However, at 103 and with high humidity... I find myself longing for the desert again... Vegas has been cooler than here. This is not fair.
And I do not have AC in my car...

Cool Recipe

1 fan (16" floor stand type recommended)
1 plant sprayer
1 bed
1 or 2 naked body/ies

Place fan at foot of bed, directing airflow evenly along the bed, towards the headboard. Adjust plant sprayer so it just begins to produce some spray - a two to three foot jet is a good start. Lay naked body on bed in path of air stream. Aim sprayer at middle of fan and fire! Say - oooooh ahhhhhh!

It is in the lower 90's here - and it is so humid my dogs won't even go outside in the morning to "do thier business". I also can't take them ontheir cutomary walks - it's just too darn HOT. So they are being over-active around the house, and driving me nuts. I hope this "heat-wave" is very, very temporary.

I have Central A/C, so it doesn't bother me too much, BUT - I had planned to go to the grocery store yesterday. But I got out of my car and into the heat of the day (I'd just driven my car almost 200 miles to get home from an out of town trip), and I just felt zapped by the heat. I decided to put off grocery-shopping until later today. It's just awful here in Nebraska. I hope it lets up - and soon.

When I leave for work(I work outside a lot) on a hot day,I bring a cooler full of ice and frozen water bottles.Every half hour or so I`ll soak my head , face and arms w/ the ice water. If I can,I`ll run the hose over my upper body every hour,to take the edge off.

Ya`ll gotta stay indoors w/ the A/C on,if you can.

Good luck

I am inside most of the day here in Florida, but we dont have central A/C....just a little window unit.....it sucks...

Sir is outside in the heat all day everyday...and yesterday it was well over 100 for the better portion of the day. I dont know how he handles it....Ive been getting up at 5am just to feed the cattle so I dont have to go out there after the sun is up.

Ugh, I thought NYC/NNJ was hot, but I had to go to Florida for business on Sunday and got back yesterday. It was so brutal, that being outside for a few minutes was an effort.

I love winter!!! You can always warm up but cooling down is a bitch.
