hsagnev -> Rope Bondage (8/9/2007 8:56:33 AM)

Recently, I’ve participated in a discussion about rope-bondage; much of the discussion was on technique.  I found it interesting that there are so many knots for various reasons (many of which are for safety), but at the time I couldn’t help but wonder why an alternative to rope wasn’t being discussed (and presumably not being used by these folks). For example, instead of using special knots (like a cat’s paw) for wrists and ankles why not buy a nice set of wrist/ankle cuffs with adjustable buckles and ring fasteners?   This would certainly be much easier and faster when it comes to restraining a loved one.

Clearly, I can see a level of enjoyment in making creative knots so maybe that is the main reason. A long ritual of tying someone up might be nice for mood as well. Having a lot of rope lying around in your garage would probably be more discrete than collars and cuffs.  Or, perhaps, rope is cheaper?

What are your thoughts?

because it was a rope bondage class.  Cuffs of metal and leather are a whole different world for us rope bondage sluts and fiends.

I have no idea what knots you speak of .  I've been doing rope bondage for years and rarely use anything other than a square knot.  (Even for suspension) Keep in mind Larks heads and hitches are not knots.  It is not about knots for me...it is about the rope...it is pretty, sexy, feels cool around the body, leaves amazing marks, comes in beautiful colors, has a wonderful sound as it hits things, feels thuddy when it slides against itself and as far as I'm concerned is the most beautiful bondage medium available.

I have a saying:  "My rope is the medium, your body is my canvas, my rope work is my art."  Cuffs of leather and metal simply don't do it for me the way the "pretty of rope" does.

I could go on and on and on.

what she said

but I still covet the Fetters leather body bag.

rope burns on ankles and wrists can not be explained to the general publc, they confime my status.   m

Rope is a completely different medium to metal or leather.  All have their lovers and they all create different results.  Bondage isn't just about being tied up to some people, it is about the restraint itself as well.  Rope makes different marks - and depending on the rope used, that it also another perspective.  There is a smell.  For me, being synaesthesic, that relates into colours and taste so all forms of bondage is amazing.  And walking into a chandlery store knowing why you are there, rocks too...[;)] (it's not all sex shops and bondage stores)
Discretion isn't really an issue to us.  And rope doesn't always mean cheap - depending on the kind you purchase.

Yup.  You have to decide whether you want to bondage or bondage plus for a scene- or whether you just want them secured so you can get on with what you really want to do.

MsOpal -> RE: Rope Bondage (8/9/2007 9:14:59 AM)

Rope is beautiful, flexible (in the many ways we can use it) it is really "one size fits all", there are wonderful colors now, if you take good care of it it just gets softer and more sensual.  Yes I love leather and I make my own suspension cuffs.  Leather is sexy too.  but sometimes it just has to be rope.

See this is where I just want to toss pictures of my work up...I'm so proud.  Rope just does it for me.  Everything about it.  I love using MFP because of it's ease of use and care.  It isn't expensive, as someone said and the marks are beautiful.  They can be lasting or quickly removed.  I learned to do a cuff in rope that doesn't tighten against the bone so it only leaves a light pressure mark vs. a burn however if I choose to burn I sure as hell can!  Pulling quickly along a cock does a nice job of burning (damn sadist in me)

Who's to say that faster or easier is better?

Me, when I'm being tied I enjoy the effort someone puts into the process. And I enjoy the challenge in keeping my partner interested when I'm tying them. It's process, not product.

Also, what "special knots" are you talking about? Almost all rope bondage tends to come down to using a few general purpose knots such as squares and bowlines. The more complicated the knot, the less strength it has and the less useful. Watch some shibari videos and you can see what I'm saying.

Besides, there's something fun about having that pattern on your skin the day after... ;)

oh! I forgot to address faster!  I can have you in a harness ready for suspension in less than 7 minutes.  I can have you out in less.  I can have you in cuffs suitable for restraint and or bondage quicker than I can buckle leather buckles on cuffs.

However....I prefer to take a 20 (go geeky gamers, you get that) and make the experience last.  I love the sensuality of it too.  God I'm all excited now.  I need a rope bottom.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Rope Bondage (8/9/2007 9:32:59 AM)

Same reason some people like anal sex and some don't.  Variety

I like things that I can control how they feel and leather restraints don't have that flexibility.  I like the creativity one can display with rope work, it can be sensual, beautiful, sadistic and cruel, subtle and almost invisible and everything in between.  Perhaps it is because I can control rop and I cannot control leather in the same way.

Yo earthy I would love to see your pics on this! I've always loved rope, there are so many textures available. 'Real' rope bondage has been something that I've yearned to try for years..not quite an obsession but darn close hehe.
I love the way it looks on others and I sure would like to know just how it feels to be extensively bound in it. Yummy but it is a forbidden fruit for me [&:]

n00b moment: how do I PM someone to say "yeah! rock on!"... or something of that nature? ;)

I forgot to say that the discussion took place during a munch, so it wasn't a class, just a discussion that gravitated toward rope bondage techniques.  Definitely interesting stuff (made me want to try it too).  There was a bit on whips as well.

earthycouple -> RE: Rope Bondage (8/9/2007 9:47:14 AM)

camille...a few pics sent.

Keith...*S* thanks.  And a suggestion:  quit with the "love" thing.  kinda squicky.

LATEXBABY64 -> RE: Rope Bondage (8/9/2007 9:47:31 AM)

yep ropie bondage is an art yep yep

e01n -> RE: Rope Bondage (8/9/2007 9:47:42 AM)

Sounds good - probably one of the best things you can do is be interested enough to do yr research and try things out. So why not do it? ;)

Cuffkinks -> RE: Rope Bondage (8/9/2007 9:50:30 AM)

     Different times, different scenes, different methods, different tools.

  I do like My leather, but about a year ago I did a little shibari studying. In the past I'd enjoyed rope bondage in very basic, standard form, but I'd pretty much forgotten about it, going with leather cuffs...etc. I have always, and always will love the image of the female form in rope. When I studied and came to really appreciate the art of shibari, I remembered what I liked about rope bondage to begin with. I'm not claiming to be any type of shibari expert, I'm still using basics and doing well on that level. The first time I used some shibari techniques on My little girl and saw how it effected her...Well...That was all I needed to see.
  Someone else here said..."It's a process...not a product." I couldn't agree more. So I'll still use My leathers, but when there is time to really enjoy the experience, rope is definitely the way to go for Me.

Okies those were fantastic pics. I could see how much you enjoy using rope and the patterns. Nice nice.
Of course now I have a serious case of 'rope envy' [:D]

mnottertail -> RE: Rope Bondage (8/9/2007 9:57:16 AM)

This sort of thing is so much more satisfying in hemp, silk or flaxen rope than leather:

ummmm---also, if anyone gets a copy of this, remember no english, copious pictures and is read from back to front (as english people understand it)
