Apparently they are trying to get enough players to make 'state owned religion' an Olympic sport.

Friends, it's "Dalai," not "Dhali."  It's a Mongolian word meaning "ocean."  "Dalai Lama" means "Oceanic Teacher" (i.e. "a teacher as great as the ocean").

This has been seen before, this isn't the first time this has been wrangled, but the stubborn bastards chose the Dhali Lama

Well, his brother Tony, the bootmaker, says it can go either way. [:D]

Yeah, I misspell the shit out of it, usually.

LOL...you were in good company Level...'Dalai' is how MSNBC had it spelled throughout the entire article!

But thanks, LaM...that was good to know!

...and I notice Ron got it right!  [:)]

No, Ron got it wrong, I think [:D]

According to DL's website, it's http://www.dalailama.com

OK so like does this mean we're about to invade China?  I thought our mission was to rid the world of evil dictators.

Only those under a certain GDP.

Okay, I don't know what GDP is... but LaM's question was the first thing that ran through my mind, too.  Course, doesn't the answer lie in whether or not they have some resource we want?  ...you know, like oil.

GDP is gross domestic product, a form of measuring wealth, and a short, smartass way of me kinda-sorta agreeing with you and Lam. China benefits us as a trading partner more than if we were to invade them.

While I don't see a neo-con boogieman behind every action the US makes, we, like most  other nations, do act out of selfish and crude reasoning, sometimes.

mnottertail -> RE: China jails Tibetan Buddhist leaders (8/4/2007 11:08:52 AM)

Gross Domestic Product?

Don't ever believe anything I spell, I may fool some people into thinking I harbor some intelligence, but the truth is that I have horrid carpal tunnel syndrome and as a computer programmer my fingers are kinda also locked into  certain sequences so that I misspell even  trivial words, and  I get tired of trying to go back and fix them.

Another reason why my posting is kinda nebulous, I have to type in bursts, because it is rather like sticking hot knives in my wrists.

Dalai is of course correct.

Ron

You harbor plenty of intelligence, Ron.

mnottertail -> RE: China jails Tibetan Buddhist leaders (8/4/2007 11:38:17 AM)

LOL, and it is berthed in harbor to this day.
