A general strike has been proposed for 9/11/07. No work, school or shopping. Even a low number of participants can make a difference. The event will show up on the radar of the Powers That Be.

Endless War.
Hundreds of Thousands of Dead Iraqis.
Torture.
Surveillance.
Civil Rights and Habeas Corpus: Gone.
Executive Privilege: No Accountability.

9/11 Questions?

Corporate Media.
Corporate Government.

Tyranny. Fascism. Lies.

The Time Has Come.
To Say NO.
While We Still Have a Chance.

GENERAL STRIKE
Tuesday 9/11/07
No Work. No School. No Shopping.
Hit the Streets."

Honestly I don't see how it would really serve any purpose aside from maybe making some people feel 'involved'.

Would it change anything?

Or is it like LiveAid..HandsAcrossAmerica?

Sigh, is there anything we can do that makes a real difference?

'Feel important' is more like it, judging from the last several such attempts...

Why has the blood of Freedom and Liberty been diluted so much to produce such apathy today?

Welfare?

The Nanny State?

Nope. My kids have guns and know how to use them. They're not afraid to walk to/from their cars at night, and don't *expect* some piece-of-shit-pig to keep them secure and safe.

Ok fargle, Ill bite....but only has hard as you ask for ok....

So, say a large number of us actually do strike or whatever on 9/11....what are you proposing that will actually DO? Cut into someones profits? Even you realize thats a silly notion. Show "Them" that we care? I am sure a million letters will do just that without risking anyones jobs. Are you proposing a "day of silence" in a sense to honor people who died? In that sense I could almost understand it...but somehow I dont think thats your meaning...

I think we'd be better off getting people to write and call their congressmen and senators that day!
Besides, I'm retired military, so I'm already "on strike" it's just that noone "knows" that I'm on strike.
If someone asks me to do something and I don't want to I just say; "No, I can't do that, I'm on strike, I can't cross a picket line!

I'm afraid Alumbrado has a good point, farglebargle. Most people see individuals who believe such harsh things about the government to be overdramatic. After hearing this drama go on and on, doom-sayers and conspiracy theorists rant on about things that find no basis in reality, .. well, people stop caring.

Ever hear the one about the man who cried "Conspiracy" three times? Yeah, he was a lot like the boy who cried "wolf", outside of the fact that nothing's come to kill him after the third time,

Who ever does show up to work on that day, will have a long hard day, pulling every body Else's work, that is for sure. It is the perfect chance for the people looking for an excuse to not work. We have enough of the hang nail club already, not going to work on a regular basis.

..... just because i am curious, has there ever been a general strike in the US? i know these things have occurred in europe and have been a bit of a mixed bag. Their main benefit, it seems to me, is the sense of solidarity they engender. The idea that there are enough of us to oppose the powers that be. Less about any actual affect, more about creating folklore.

An 'imbedded' problem of anti status quo activism, is that the people who feel right at home at your rally to support farm workers rights, or your forum to discuss prison reform, include those least likely to feel comfortable inside a Republican convention hall... (or any structure except for a log cabin in Montana, for that matter).
Not only do some of them scare the horses and the children, but they make a convenient excuse for dismissal of everyone as part of 'that crackpot group'.
And it is those people who are doing the dismissing who most need to be convinced with a hefty dose of reason not ranting, because it is they not the loonies on the other side, who make up the bedrock support group.

Yes lets advertise it all over the place that America on that day will be away and the terrorists can have a field day.

.....this seems to me to be a problematic way of thinking. If all domestic issues are dominated by the fear of an external threat haven't the terrorists won? Surely the best response to terrorism is to carry on as normal in as many areas as possible?

But slamming someone into solitary, without an attorney, or arraignment for 1300 DAYS isn't a crackpot conspiracy, is it? It is established fact.

And if they can do it to a suspected muslim, why not a Jew? Why not anyone? Why not you?

Phil,

I think that the reasoned argument you have outlined is probably correct.

But, if after all it turns out faulty somehow, we have not factored in our accounting  the fierceness of the crack troops manning the perimeters of our defense and what fear the velcro closures are going to strike into the hearts of the enemy at the gate.

Safest place to be in America is solitary confinement....who was it that said something about exchanging safety for freedom??

Either that or Im gonna go buy the plot of land next door to the bushes in paraguay...thats gotta be a pretty safe place...
