I have been reading Many post of late. I try to pick up on where the author of said post gets their view from. Are they Media driven or are they coming from a childhood real life experience back ground. when we listen to the sub side of things or the Dom domme side it is truly interesting.. my question to you is do you find Dom's Dommes have more correct input for lifestyle things then subs or do you feel this is just all media hype trying to persuade the left and right of things kinda like the political correctness side of BDSM .....

I have no idea what you mean when you keep talking about media hype. We're all just people. There are general things you can say about general groups. But the moment you start talking about an individual person/relationship/circumstance, then all bets are off.

IMO people's views of BDSM are only as good as the inforamtion which laid the foundation for those views... if my opinions of BDSM were developed from reading too many romance novels, I'd have a pretty dysfucntional and romanticized view of BDSM. (Thank goodness I'm practical enough to have not done that...) If I were a dominant-type person, and had developed my views of BDSM based upon watching men treat women like crap, I'd have a pretty dysfunctional and abusive view of BDSM. (Thankfully I'm smart enough to avoid men like that...) I've noticed in other posts you've mentioned the media's influence on BDSM; might I ask for an example of said influence? I'm struggling to think of where in my daily life I've seen a media influence on "BDSM culture" (for lack of a better term).

In my opinion, the views I express mainly come from my own personal experiences and I also draw upon from javing discussions with many of my friends, both Doms and subs. By Media, if meaning reading informative books written by reputable authors on various aspects of BDSM, then yes, that has some bearing. I don't beloeve that a Dom(me) point of view is more correct then a sub's point of view. Each has a unique perspective based upon their own beliefs and experiences.

Don't know about "political correctness side of BDSM", but i do know from first hand experience that until a relationship D/s, M/s, T/b or whatever becomes an in person real life 24/7 living together one, there's all kinds of room for BS to flourish. It's not even that i think people mean to BS, it's just real easy to go mental and psychological about things rather than talk from experience - especially when there's no experience - heh heh. And visiting someone on weekends or overnight, well - not at all the same as up close and personal where who you each are is right there every day with nowhere to go. At least that's been my experience - until i started living with Chairman we only "thought" we knew and understood each other. We only "thought" we were experiencing a real D/s relationship. But once the submission is expected in real life, under circumstances that aren't going to disappear because someone gets to go home, it's a whole different thing. So, to answer your question, i think both Doms and subs have valid views IF they have the experience to back it up, Otherwise, it's just mental masturbation as far as i'm concerned.

I'll second LA in that I have no idea what you're trying to say. But I can add that I don't think there are any meaningful differences between Dominants/Tops and submissives/bottoms, including their comprehension of BDSM. In fact, unless someone is my submissive, I don't believe there is any difference at all between Dominant/Top and submissive/bottom. That's one reason why I treat everyone the same (save my submissive). John

Everyone here are adults with experiences that differ from the next person. We all have valuable things to offer in our own ways...some of us sage advice on rope bondage (me) some of us really cool ideas for various other things, some of us have such great interpersonal skills, even via this medium that their advice is always well warranted and then, some of the people here on these forums provide us the valuable service of something to laugh at when their post is so preposterous that no one can take it seriously. Okay (thanks Celeste) I understand the question a little better now. To answer it - No I think people (both Dom/mes and subs) interpret whatever information they get about the BDSM world based on their own personalities and life experience. I don't think males or females, Dom/mes or submssives, lack for available information about BDSM (in the form of books, articles, websites, and these boards, to name a few available educational avenues). I think people may gradually (or suddenly) change their opinion about some ideas they have, or how they interact with other people in the BDSM world, as they gain knowledge and experience about BDSM. They may not change their ideas about some other things (for the same reason - their individual personalities and how they interpret their own personal experiences). Bottom line: No matter how much information (or how little) someone is exposed to - they are still going to interpret that information in an individualized way. People may be able to influence each other's opinions, but I believe everyone still bases their opinion on their own perceptions of the information they receive, even then. Even people into things like "Mind Control", etc. (I know I do). - Susan

OK some of you are starting to get it.. so let me explain a little bit further. it comes down to our character and value structure.. lets say your doing a court case. you have heard both sides in the court case your role is the jury. society is going to be the judge...you have all the right answers.. to make a proper choice.. yet what we agree with society might not always agree with.. so based your values ideas morals structure your persona so to speak what makes you think that your logic is not flawed and not the correct path or is correct based on what your rel experience and what made you come to the conclusion of that.... was it based on media hype or was it just the sheep syndrome(( i said that because person b and a said it or vise versa))

I think that until you can "descend" to our levels and speak in coherent messages, you cant actualy hope to get any useful feedback. But thats just me. Amazingly even when I was doing high level programming I still spoke English. And Angel is still capable of making himself understood when he wants to find things out from other people even though his mind runs on many more tracks than the average persons. So, see if you can simplify what your asking, without allegories and without examples. State it, plain and simple. What is it you want to know? DV
