Someone gave me 6 pounds of strawberries. If I cook a whole bunch down into syrup, can that be frozen?
I'm not set up to can stuff, so is there a way to deal with that many strawberries?
Help!

Camille, yes you can.

Get some large, trustworthy ziploc baggies, cook the strawberries down, let them cool and store them in the freezer in the ziplocs.  They'll keep for about 3 months in a regular freezer before getting freezer burn and about 6-8 in a deep freezer (if you have one) :)

There's a big difference between the local fruits and vegetables here in S. Carolina and New Hampshire where I moved from.
Also, the growing season here is so much longer than up in N.H.
Pretty tough to grow peaches in N.H.
And, it seems like *anything* will grow here!
A few times I took a drive "in-land" from the Myrtle Beach area and after about 25-30 miles in-land you see Cotton growing.
It looks like snow on the side of the road.

At my place in Strafford, New Hampshire I had 8 huge blueberry bushes there that used to produce Huge blueberrys!
I'd get 70-80 lbs of blueberrys at the end of August and freeze a bunch of them.

Easy, cantaloupe. (Hope that's spelled right) One of my favorite foods, but it's just never quite as good in the winter.

Mmm...nummy!  i have to go "searching" them out in the woods..but i have a few spots that produce a lot of them.  my goal is to have a few bushes planted at the edge of O/our yard though so i don't have to go wandering anymore lol.

Yeah, those blueberry bushes were planted there by the previous owner and were about 8 feet tal, "high bush blueberrys."
There were "wild" blueberrys around the property and in the woods too.

never cared for blueberries, but loooooove blackberries, they grow wild all over the place in my hometown in Virginia, as kids we'd stand around and just eat tons of them right off the bush. we'd also suck the sweet nectar out of the honeysuckle blossoms growing on the side of the road while standing around at the school bus stop, mmm mmmm!

my Master's favorite dessert is baked strawberry pie, and i make some version of it for him every summer. but i have yet to find a recipe that is really just right...there's always something or other off about it...too liquidy, too gummy, etc. does anyone know of a recipe for a really good baked (two-crust) strawberry pie?
