So, if you're a size 10, forget it, you just won't do.  I wanted to go through my computer and start screaming at him, but then remembered he really wasn't worth the effort, lol.

But why?

Now, I'll start this by point out that I prefer to date women who's sizes run from 8 to 16. I also prefer taller women. That is what I am attracted too.

Would you have been as offended had he said "Sorry if this seems shallow, but ladies, if your dress size is under double digits, it's not going to work for me!"?

And let's add one more thing. The more physically attractive one is, the less wright is an issue. Really, that is the crux of the whole thing. If one is really pretty or really handsome a lot of negatives, weight issues being one, get over looked.

The heart wants what the heart wants but so does the brain and while all hearts are generally the same, brains are all very very different.

BTW... it works the opposite too, Of course, you never see 15 page threads about the term buttaface do you?

Being overweight has so many health implications, a seeker can and should state his/her reservations honestly. If a poster is seeking an intimate relationship and not merely a friend, such a basic physical attribute is quite important, and it can be significant even for a friend. I just read of a study that found, over the long term, that indivdiuals with obese friends tended themselves to gain weight, surmising that having fat friends leads to a lessening of the distaste for being overweight. Besides leading to hypertension, diabetes, and a host of other maladies, excess weight is simply not attractive. Some primitive socieities take pride in having their women overweight because it supposedly shows that the man is wealthy enough to over feed them. Civilization has progressed beyond that stage. As medical costs are more and more spread out among the population (whether by insurance or Medicaid), maintaining a physical condition that leads inexorably to increased medical care becomes an antisocial act. Sorry, I won't be able to take the time to respond to all the yelps this may generate, but honesty is the best policy...
Cheers to all, light and heavy and in-between.

Weight and eating is not the only factor in health. Genetics, evenironment, and mental health also play a critical role. If your family has a long history of high blood pressure, you will probably develop it eventually no matter how healthy you eat. That disease is in your genetics and currently we lack the technology to remove it.

There have been more than a few professional athletes that have just dropped dead or had sudden health problems. There was that baseball player a few years ago that died of cardiac arrest when he was in his late 20s. He was otherwise very healthy and in perfect shape.

Diebetes, heart disease, and cancer can strike any person, any race, any age, any weight, at any time. A lot of people have the misconception that because you are young, healthy, eat well, and exercise that you are going to live forever. You are mortal. And your body can develop disease just as easily as the fat slob you see walking into McDonalds. By eating healthy and exercising, you give your body a better chance to fight disease, but its not a gurantee.

The importance of physical appearance

Extremely important.

15th century philosophers grasped this notion.

Machiavelli: Men in general judge by their eyes.....the common people are always impressed by appearances and results.

Style over-rides substance. Particularly in materialistic countries like England because the political framework is geared towards commerce and individual business initiatives. The logical conclusion of this framework is that the people of England will tend to look outwards rather than inwards and, thus, appearance/materialism/style takes precedence. A generalisation, but one that is supported by history. For example, compare 19th century Germany and the disproportionate number of artists, philosophers, psychologists, musicians etc with 19th century England and the disproportionate number of inventors, engineers, merchants etc to understand the link between a nation's political framework and how it directs a people (well, middle classes) towards either commerce/business initiatives or introspective self-realisation.

In sum, the political framework in a country like England means the vast majority of the people look outwards towards commerce and materialism rather than inwards towards human understanding. It follows that style will mean more than substance in such countries.

Confucious say that people who look inwards for understanding and Nirvana will need to be supported by those who look outwards to trade and commerce..
