farglebargle -> Endgame: AGonzo commits perjury. (7/25/2007 4:58:59 PM)

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2007-07-25-documents-gonzales_N.htm

quote:

"The dissent related to other intelligence activities," Gonzales testified at Tuesday's hearing. "The dissent was not about the terrorist surveillance program."

"Not the TSP?" responded Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y. "Come on. If you say it's about other, that implies not. Now say it or not."

"It was not," Gonzales answered. "It was about other intelligence activities."

HEARING: Senate panel questions Gonzales' credibility

A four-page memo from the national intelligence director's office shows that the White House briefing with the eight lawmakers on March 10, 2004, was about the terror surveillance program, or TSP.

The memo, dated May 17, 2006, and addressed to then-House Speaker Dennis Hastert, details "the classification of the dates, locations, and names of members of Congress who attended briefings on the Terrorist Surveillance Program," wrote then-Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte

isn't Gonzales the fall guy for this anyway? or rather the "fall out guy?"  now he can have a trial, get convicted for perjury, get sentenced, get said sentence commuted and be pardoned in a few months.

"formula" justice x + y = fly as in free....lol

dream well,
dovie ....who is going to go scout out a cuppa

edited to add the "trial." after all this is America

Bwahahahahaha.

Or maybe there was more than one subject discussed at the meeting.  From what is described, it is fully possible.  Note that in the opening paragraph of the Article,"terrorist survelance program" is written in lower case letters as it would be for a non specific/general noun, later in the article it is capitalised as it would be when refering to a specific program.  Maybe that is just an error on the staff at USA Today, mistakes do happen, maybe it was intentional.

I don't think this would be the first time the Reps threw a fake lead to the dems for August.  Get you guys all riled up, ranting at the Beach and all that.  Come September when people actually begin paying attention, concede to the demands to identify and compromise the secret program.  The Dems driving it now look foolish, the Reps posing tough now, gain respect.

Or maybe not, time will tell....

farglebargle -> RE: Endgame: AGonzo commits perjury. (7/25/2007 7:12:41 PM)

The article would be from the transcript of the committee meeting, and therefore capitalized at the journalists/editors discretion.

And there likely *are* many different "surveillance programs", it was one thing I believe Senator Schumer was quite specific about clarifying. And it looks like AGonzo stepped right into it.

Now the REAL QUESTION AGonzo's gotta ask himself is, " Does W like Mexicans as much as W likes Regular White People like Scooter?"

Remember in the beginning of  Goodfella`s, when the young Henry Hill(Ray Liotta) gets caught on a petty crime? He`s arrested,in jail and scared shitless that he`ll be in trouble with  Robert DeNiro`s character Jimmy Conway.
Hill goes through the system and later, when he sees Jimmy(R.DeNiro)he`s thinking he`s going to get smacked for getting caught. But, instead,Robert DeNiro puts a hundred dollar bill in Henry`s shirt pocket, and says"Ya got pinched,we all get pinched, but ya did it right,ya didn`t say nut`n."  That`s who Alberto is,the kid who didn`t say nut`n.

luckydog1 -> RE: Endgame: AGonzo commits perjury. (7/26/2007 12:23:30 AM)

Nope Farg, in English specific nouns are called proper nouns and are capitalised, non specifc nouns are not capitalised.  It is not up to the editors discretion.  If it was refering to the TSP, it was a mistake.  If it was intentionally not capitalised it refers to terrorist survielance programs in general, which as you have already admitted covers a lot of ground.  Also the article is not from the transcript....a few quotes are.

Heck I think USA Today (proper noun..capitalised) is a crappy paper in general, so them making a mistake like this would not surprise me (much)

Alumbrado -> RE: Endgame: AGonzo commits perjury. (7/26/2007 6:52:57 AM)

Oh, I think the more interesting phase of this will come if Congress tries to back up its subpoena and contempt power by actually taking members of the executive branch into custody.

Edited for grammar.

You know, some of you discuss politics as though it were Monday-morning quarterbacking on ESPN.  Politics is not just about rooting for your team.  It's not like with the Steelers.  You don't prove your worth by sticking with your guys through thick and thin.

Some people actually take the issues seriously.

True,
If Gonzo "get`s away" with law breaking ,it`s a victory for luckydog and the neo-cons.Fuck the US,and it`s laws ,we won!Fredo,as bush calls him got pinched, but he didn`t say nut`n."Yippy, victory! We broke the law and got away with it.Damm we`re good."

The Sopranos don`t have anything over this bunch of crooks.

Hey luckydog, who`s side are you on,anyway.I guess you don`t think felon Scooter Libby is a crook either. Is every day "backwards day" for you?
When are you gonna get on the side of America? We need all the folks we can get.

luckydog1 -> RE: Endgame: AGonzo commits perjury. (7/26/2007 11:08:42 AM)

Nah, that's the OLD WAY of doing things.

Now, apparently, it's A-OK to just slam someone in the hole for 1300 days, without arraignment, counsel or trial.

People in the USA today should just STFU and be glad we're not at the "Stand 'em up against the wall" stage yet.

popeye1250 -> RE: Endgame: AGonzo commits perjury. (7/26/2007 3:07:16 PM)

It's on the News now.
And from what they're saying it looks like he did indeed lie.
"Things aren't looking too good for Gonzalez."  CNN

Alumbrado -> RE: Endgame: AGonzo commits perjury. (7/26/2007 3:11:23 PM)

It is already thrashed out that Congress can subpoena and cite until they are blue in the face, the Bush appointed prosecutors are the gatekeepers to any effective action being taken.

Unless Congress actually has the balls to send the Capitol Police over to the White House, all of this is electioneering puffery.

farglebargle -> RE: Endgame: AGonzo commits perjury. (7/26/2007 3:28:42 PM)

What happens when Gonzales in impeached, and Bush sends a nominee to Congress for approval?

It seems to me that Congress won't approve anyone who isn't beholden to their Oath, rather than their political masters.

Of course, I could be wrong, but of course, then they can impeach again ( this time for obstruction of justice ).

Bush's WEAK SPOT is if there is a USAtty who ISN'T a Loyal Bushie when the rubber hits the road. ONE USAtty could being the cases in front of the Grand Jury, and then it's the Greybar Hotel until arraigned and bailed out.

I also wonder what kind of cross-jurisdictional aspects exist. e.g.: Do the New York State Police get to pick up the fugitive, and extradite them to a venue with jurisdiction ( Hague anyone? )

Interesting times... Right in line with my tagline...

We still haven't explained how they are going to physically enforce their paper edicts.

Jurisdiction, jurisdiction, jurisdiction... the ones with jurisdiction over DC are loyal Bushies.

What's the Sargent-at-Arms for, and why does he have a big stick?
