Tammy Faye Messner, who as Tammy Faye Bakker helped her husband, Jim, build a multimillion-dollar evangelism empire and then watched it collapse in disgrace, has died. She was 65. Messner had battled colon cancer since 1996 that more recently spread to her lungs. She died peacefully Friday at her home near Kansas City, Mo., said Joe Spotts, her manager and booking agent. A family service was held Saturday in a private cemetery, where her ashes were interred, he said. She had frequently spoken about her medical problems, saying she hoped to be an inspiration to others. "Don't let fear rule your life," she said. "Live one day at a time, and never be afraid." Believe it or not I kinda liked her. One of my best friends in childhood was reared by fundies. She gave me a record with Tammy Faye singing children's religious songs called Oops There Goes Another Smile. I was going through all my old childhood albums a few years ago and found it... I had not realized it was Her and Baker that made the album, until I turned it over and saw their picture on the back... I still have it because it is kinda an ironic thing for a person like me to have held on to for all these years

She didn't die, she got "Raptured!" And all the schmucks who sent them money got their wallets and credit cards "raptured" too. Who, in their right mind would send their money to reprobates like that?

I for one hope she can now be at peace,cancer is a slow painful death and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Years ago, I watched a robust woman as she was ravaged by cancer. In cases like that, death is a blessing. I hope Tammy Faye went where she had faith she would go.

I can't help but wonder if all that make-up she used help promote the cancer. Nobody really knows what that put in that stuff that the media forces on Woman?

I am going to ignore a lot posted here. I like Tammy Faye Baker Messner, I just watched her last interview with Larry King last week when she weighed just 65 pounds. It took a lot of courage to share with the world her struggles and fight with cancer the last 2 years. I admire her and respect her very public battlers, especially sharing the hell she went through with cancer. R.I.P. my little one.

I saw that as well and can't agree with you more.It takes a strong person,at least now she isn't suffering anymore thank god.

She was very spirited, and despite going through all that she did, attempted to always be positive and smiling. She was an easy target for ridicule, with the makeup, and crying, and the whole Jim Baker/PTA thing, but my hunch is that underneath it all, she was a decent person.

she brought my mom much joy and happiness after mom got too sick to go to church.....mom loved the childlike quality tammy faye had, and i even grew to like her after she and jim divorced..... i really think she had a good heart and good intentions.....thats good enough for me....may she r i p

Personally I'm glad she is dead...she and her ex-husband jimmy milked tons of money from those that could least afford it. As for her cancer, who cares...there are alot of unknown people out there who are better role models for those that need inspiration that remain unknown because they do not have money and have to continue working every day of they year supporting their families no matter how sick they are or feel. Boo hoo...she died of cancer...good ridance...its people like her that give religion a bad name. Now God will deal her the justice and compassion she may or may not deserve, I leave that up to Him. If you want to mourn...morn for those that have nothing, yet do the right thing day in and day out. If you wish to help then help those that need the help in your community...charity starts at home...in your own community. My father died of kidney cancer that spread to his leg and lungs eventually choking him to death. He was the kindest gentlest most family orientated man I ever knew. I mourn for people like him who this world was cherished to have in it throughout the 46 years of his short life. If only the world knew what it had last in a generous and honorable person he was verses a rich self serving religious phony like Tammy Faye. May the unknowns like my father be the inspiration and through their hard work and suffering may we eventually find a cure for Cancer. Robert Putnam

RPutnam, well said. People like that are no more than common criminals and swindlers. They just use "religion" as a disquise of respectability. No difference between someone who steals your wallet and these charletons. It said on the news Jim and Tammy Faye "built a $75 m empire" from plt or whatever they called it. Of course I'm sure that "empire" involved Mercedes Benzs, Mansions, jewelry and all the trappings of the super wealthy. What's it say in the bible about the rich getting into heaven? Drug dealers do the same thing. Funny how some people think that if they don't send a check to some bum on tv with a bad haircut they won't get into heaven. ("You're fucking kidding me, right?") I used to call the Clintons "Jim and Tammy Faye Baker." Two more scammers.

Both her and Jim were from Little Falls, Minnesota. The governors office has made no statement on behalf of the american people, and no memorials are being planned. Too bad about the cancer, somethings gonna get you, but what a waste of oxygen those people were.

i'm not sure if Tammy Faye was charged or convicted of anything along the way. i do believe there were back tax issues involving Her name, don't really know the outcome to that either, simply was never interested enough to care. i think Tammy was an overall decent person beyond the faults others found in Her. We all have those in our lives whom either loathe us or love us, that's a given. i would simply hope that when i pass, for the sake of my child, and anyone else whom might be saddened and broken hearted by such, those sitting on the great seat of judgement could possibly put away their knives for just a moment or two while family and friends rightfully grieve their loss. Not to much to ask i believe. chia* (the pet)
