SLIDELL, La. - A $1.63 property tax bill that never reached its destination in 1996 has turned into a nightmare for Kermit and Dolores Atwood, who are now trying to keep from losing their home over the unpaid notice.

Dolores Atwood calls the events that followed the wayward bill, including the eventual sale of their home at a sheriff's tax sale, "seven years of emotional hell."

ah, but you see, its easy to mistake this and to link it with the amount involved.

The amount is irrelevant. What is relevant is the apparent defiance of authority in not paying the bill. Whether one received the bill is of course equally irrelevant.

This sort of confusion arises from a misunderstanding of the policy whereby penalties are issued relative to the offence. This is not done to reflect the comparative seriousness of offences, but because it is convenient to use such scales in order that you might be punished but are returned to society to continue raising revenues and sales. The true penalty for defiance of authority is of course, death for treason. So theyre getting off lightly, all in all.

Why is it that someone in authority doesnt intervene in these circumstances? Because there is no need to intervene and everything to gain by allowing "justice" to take its course.

Well, LE, that seems a bit salty, but I understand.

Let's forget katrina for a moment, let's say they were still there. I would goddam well refuse to leave my property for an unpaid $1.63.

I would be dead, I would get out my gun and die, because if I have to die for something like this in this country, then I WANT to die. Oh no I wouldn't shoot myself, don't get that in your head for one split second. But for $1.63 they will send their troops to die.

That is ridiculous, but they would do it. And they are the ones who sold the place for a less than two bucks. This is ridiculous. And the guy had it sold but the sale was nixed. That had to hurt. Especially with the guy paying insurance probably for years and was never covered at all. And probably won't get a refund either.

And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

Anyone care to get even fucking saltier ? This would be a good thread to do it in. This fucking government and their handlers in industry are killing us. And they don't care. How fucking much more do we have to take ?

Get out the salt, now's the time. This is an absolute travesty, damn, this is worse than the emeinent domain scandal in Lakewood, Ohio. At least those people had a chance to make it public and subsequently kept their houses. These people had no chance.

They are not fucked, hell the light from fucked takes 11 minutes to reach them.

I would EXECUTE the supposed public servant who let a family's home get sold for $1,63. Publicly. In front of all the other supposed public servants.

If you got more salt than that, there's a six pack in it for you. With a situation like that, there is at least one public official who, at the very least, belongs in prison.
