Hmmm.
I ask you then - What's the difference between someone who's coloured and someone who isn't?
In 1995, my third year of university, I remember a friend of Mine getting an essay back in a colonial history class. In it, this friend had used the term "coloured" all throughout his essay. The Professor had scribbled out every single one - and wrote a long blurb at the end of his essay about how the word is no longer acceptable. It doesn't matter if someone uses it is racist or not. It is demeaning and deragatory. And "blonde" or "thin" isn't typically used to describe someone's race/cultural background, rather, someone's appearance.
I'm not at all hanging on to racism. I'm just very sorry that so many negative and outrageous stereotypes still exist in our world - when so many people are more educated than 10-15 years ago. And coming from dave who mentions being an educated person - I was left more than in shock at some of his terminology.
