BRATTLEBORO, Vt. - Topless women on parade? That was fine. Teenagers loitering in the buff, in a downtown parking lot? No problem. Naked sunbathers at swimming holes? It was just au naturel.

But a senior citizen in his birthday suit, walking through the center of town on a Friday night, wearing only a fanny pack? That's where Brattleboro draws a fig leaf.

After years of allowing public nudity, the town famous for its strip-and-let-strip attitude is considering banning it in parts of town, saying naked notoriety has begun drawing people here and is offending locals.

As someone who has grown increasingly fonder of running around nakie, since I’ve been involved in D/s; I’m gonna have to side with the 19 yr old on this one.

Of course, I have contemplated why it would not be such a good idea, at this time, to do so in public though. First, I would be concerned about STDs; then there is the fact that it would most likely offend some people to have others running around nakie; but I was thinking those wouldn’t actually be the biggest problems.

I came to the conclusion the biggest problems would result from the inability of some people to not touch what isn’t theirs, and trying to force what they’ve got on people who aren’t interested; crying shame really.

The reason “Mr. Freebird” being naked was a problem, besides picking an inopportune moment to do so,  is the fact that being naked wasn’t enough for him; he felt he needed to point it out to others.

quote:

"Naked people don't impress me," said Corsano, 60. "But to be walking down the street like that. I just looked straight at him, and he looked down. He was trying to get me to look down there, but I wouldn't."

I've been to a clothing optional campsite. =) Actually, it was huge week long pagan gathering in Southern Ohio, lol. Back in my wild Wiccan days, of course.
I think most people confuse nudism with exhibitionism. Not the same thing! Nudists generally don't bare it because they want to show off, they bare it because it feels just damn good. Staring and ogling is really bad etiquette. The old, fat, and ugly don't give a rat's ass whether they look acceptable or not to others, which is unassailably cool in my book. It's a hard concept to get used to, if one associates nudity with sexual attractiveness.

and associating nudity with sexual attractiveness is apparently the problem here...the woman who says that he tried to get her to look "down there" was merely giving her opinion on his intent...there were no words exchanged, he didn't touch her or himself, so what's the big deal??

Hey, I don't have a problem with The Swedish Bikini Team walking around bollicky arsed naked but my uncle = BAD naked!

This part is cute:

quote:

"It's time they did something about it," said Sherwood Smith, manager of Baskets Bookstore, which is located near a parking lot where naked teens gathered last summer. "It hurts a store like this. People who are likely to buy used books are often conservative middle-aged people, or older."

"Hey, OK, it sounds fun in theory, but it's hurting my business, so it has to be a bad thing!"

Vendaval -> RE: Naked in Vermont (7/17/2007 12:26:12 AM)

Yes, this has also been my experience with the local nude beach, Pagan gatherings, private parties with naked people in and out of the pool and hot tubs, etc.

In general I keep the blinds closed in the summer with the fans running and wear nothing on top and very little on the bottom.

The great thing about nudity is that you realize humans really do come in all shapes and sizes and that loving your body with all of the perceived "flaws" is the beginning of self-acceptance.

PS - When sunning your buns don't forget the SPF 50! [:D]
