Allow me to offer my condolences also......being chosen by a cat is the greatest feeling......my 3 are still young yet, but I also know that's no guarantee.  I've had to make the same decision three times in the past, and it felt like I was killing a part of myself, even tho I knew deep down that it was the right thing to do.

Allow yourself the time to grieve, to cry, to miss him.  To not do so would be wrong to the memory of Ollie.  He will always be alive in your heart....remember the good times, the times he made you smile, laugh out loud or even roll your eyes at him.  You will be chosen again.....good folks always are!

It sounds like you really had a good buddy there!  I'm very sorry he has to be put down but you wouldn't want him to go through what people have to go through!
My Sassy nags Me from the time I get up in the mornings till I finally shut her up and feed her.  And I truly understand about that stare - it's like they're putting their thoughts into your head.

I love it when an animal adopts me.  Just recently a large brown tabby shoved his way through my front door.  I put him out and told him he had the wrong house.  He was very clean, declawed, and neutered.  I already have 4 cats, 3 dogs and a parrot I rescued.  My husband was not going to take him in kindly.

2 days later, he showed up again looking a little bit worse for the wear.  I put him in my laundry room with water and food and a soft bed and a personal litter-box.  It was just going to be overnight.  That was 2 weeks ago. I've put up fliers and looked for something indicating he belonged elsewhere.  Nothing.  This cat is perfect in personality and he eased himself slowly into the cat brood we have here.  He responded to the name Chuck.  BBC- Big Brown Chuck.  My husband is resigned that we now have an additional cat and is warming up to him. (but I wish he'd stop calling him Upchuck).

I have lamented pets I have lost until someone told me, that they come to us in times of our lives where we needed them most.  Like everything on this planet, they too have their season and job.  Oliver's mission was done.  You loved him.  Could be you needed to be loved at the time he showed up.  Be happy for him you gave him the venue to accomplish his mission.  I feel the best complement you can give to a pet, so loved, that is passed, is to give that  love to another pet or person.  Tis the lesson they teach us :)
