Pity they can't put up a fenced patio area with awning for outside. That way you could smoke without harassment from neighbors. Of course the building ventilation could not include intakes from that area or the smoke would be drawn back in.

hey, theres always someone worse than you...right...in Arizona you can't smoke within 20 ft of a door or window of a business, except the tabacco retailers and reservations...on a busy street do you know where that puts you? in the middle of the street....smoking/tag with cars! ...i guess for the nicotine addicted adrenaline junkies...
luckily it was never enforced while i was there cause i definately just stepped outside the door and lit up...(can't go too far from the a/c or you will melt on your way back)

is it so hard to bring an over coat or a long loose dress you can throw over your fetish wear/nakedness when you have to get your nicotine fix...and i am a smoker, but now that i think about it, i started smoking after the bans took effect here...so i have less habbits to unlearn, beliefs about rights to unbelieve

chelle...who's lortab is working...it took me 30 min to type this...i think...

Yeah,I was thinking about those people who have a smoking fetish, clubs though they might want to provide are prevented by an ill thought of law.My regular pub, though not a fet pub even though it is visited by strange types, myself included has a problem with this ban.If it is raining there are no patrons, they stay at home rather than get wet outside. So somedays,no business, which is hardly good for small country pubs. Not only that, all those that said they would come to the pub if it were no smoking,so far have not.I fear the loss of a friendly relaxed part of my social life.

This ban is ill thought out,why do we have to follow the world in bans, why can we not lead the world in providing for all. This can be done with smoking areas, screened, air extracted, filtered etc.Even to go as far as similar to the nasty places they have in airports for the maligned smokers,at least they won't get wet, unless of course they like getting wet.

When I was in college, I liked to watch TV late at night.  Two trouble makers thought they could not go downstairs to smoke, but wreck by preferably solo time watching various things on TV with smoke, it was no smoke where I was sitting.  They said some gibberish about paying for their rooms and had rights, even though it clearly said no smoking.  I thought it was extremely disrespectful, so when they both light up I took the one who was provoking this situation the most and the tougher of the two and smacked the cigarettte out of his mouth.

I remember working for a corporation who said they only wanted to hire non-smokers, and when it came to light that particular people actually did smoke, I was one of the people who did say it was discrimination to not let them work whether they smoked or not.  discrimination in hiring has legal trouble in the USA where I'm from.....even though it still happens....

second hand smoke is worse actually than smoking it first hand.....I showed a news article about this to a smoker and got her to quit...I was friends with her daughter at the time.....

Cigarettes... Car exhaust fumes...Smoke stacks from plants... Pesticides.... smoke from BBQ grills... Smoke from Burning trash....gas while pumping it into your car.... chemicals from your cleaning products while you clean your house .....

And all because it's in print doesn't make it so. As usual... you are shown ONLY what they want to show you....and figure you'll believe or not.

It's just easier to battle the little men than the big giants. Granted the smoking industries aren't that small. But they're small potatos compared to other companies that are doing far worse a job on the air you are breathing. Just as they have attacked the cigarette... now they're taking on the cars again. Small steps... but ALMOST worthless when you stop and think of all the other things you are inhaling on a daily basis.

But like others have said as well.... it should be up to the owner of said places on what to do with the smoking. I really DO NOT think it should be law to ban smokers. If you don't want smokers in your business... place a sign up that states... no shoes.. no shirts... no pets... no smokers... easy to do.

I do not like eating around a bunch of smokers...so there for I go to places that cater to non smokers... or sit in non smoking sections. (Some really need to work on their air systems though).... But I do enjoy my smoking when i'm drinking.. playing darts or pool. There for I shouldn't have to go out side to smoke. They took the rights of the owners out the door when this ban started. There could be bars that cater to smokers....and bars that cater to the non smokers... but the big wigs decided it was their job to make that choice for us.

I do not think they should of made anyone pay out a dime in all these lawsuits. No one MADE anyone pick up a smoke.. or hang out in a place filled with smokers. It's all done by choice. Just like it's my choice if I want to submit or dominate. IT"S CHOICE... and no I do not go for the.... I didn't have a choice .... my parents smoked......big deal... most parents did back in the day. (BEFORE chemicals started get sprayed on the tobacco.)...it's not the tabacco that is killing... it's the CHEMICALS.... the same chemicals that are used to keep bugs and weeds off your food. That's why you're told to wash your fruits and veggies before cooking or eating.

All in all... and this is for the smokers... talk with you local business owners... see if something could be compromised on. Building on to the building... etc...

As for the non smoker... stop bitching about smokers...and start bitching about the other things you breath in when you're not wearing your mask or carrying an O2 tank with you because you want fresh air to breath. It's not just the smokers causing the damn problems!!!!

Oh... this was done on fast reply too... not pointed to anyone person.

It wouldnt matter in the UK (which Lady E is talking about) because its illegal to smoke in a 'public place' - so anywhere that is public other than an outside area, the business gets fined.

All I can add is that if I went into a bar and caused the kind of pain to one smoker that their ciggies cause me, I'd be charged with assault. Not to mention the risk of ciggie burns because the smokers don't always pay attention to how they hold their ciggies, they just wave them around in crowded areas. Nice.
Spending my entire life sitting at home, never eating out, going to a kink event or munch, never seeing a football game or a speaker because I don't want to smoke doesn't really seem like a fair option to me. Sorry, smokers, the bans aren't going to be repealed.
(Cars, barbecues, pesticides, smokestacks from plants and burning garbage are also not allowed indoors, and rightly so)

That said, a nightclub here got the brilliant idea to buy a bus for the smokers! They only use it in the winter as it's a tad chilly here then. They park it right outside the bar entrance. Patrons can go straight from the bar to the warm, cozy bus to light up. Amazingly, it's legal.

Again I say that I quit smoking and it is hard for me to go somewhere where there is smoke, but we keep talking about this being "public" we scream about our rights as smokers and non smokers. The rights I see being trampled on are the rights of the people who used their money to buy these clubs, they are the ones that are being told what they can and cannot do with their property.

I am one of those few that has the best of both worlds.  I enjoy smoking (especially with a drink), but I've never become truly addicted to them so I can do without if I need to.
I agree that it should be up to the establishment whether or not to allow smoking.  This ban is killing a lot of small businesses.  Everyone seems to have taken up the banner of "just stop smoking".  Well, you better hope like hell that they don't.  Why?  Cigarettes carry a VERY heavy tax right now.  If everyone stops smoking, where do you think they're going to get that money from?   That's right.  Everyone, including you non-smokers.   Don't think for a minute that the government is just going to give up that money once it's gone.
It's like that very old saying......when they came for the Jews, I did nothing because I wasn't Jewish.  Just because it doesn't affect you right now, don't assume it's all ok.  Once you start letting them by with something like this, there will be others to follow.  There's already a law against restaurants selling food with trans fat.  What's next?  No caffeine because it's bad for you too?

we have had the bans in place here for a while but most of the pubs/clubs have built special areas for smokers because otherwise at nightime there would be dramas because there is also a 1am lockout rule, you cant get into a club after 1am whether you have been in previously or not.

As for fetish events I  tend to agree with the idea of taking a coat and throwing it over yourself

As the OP said, in her part of the world it's a new thing. Where I come from (New Zealand) , it's been a fact of life for years, and well under way in Australia where I currently live. It's teething problems. But it's not going to go away, so we all have to get used to it and make the necessary adjustments. Smokers do themselves no favours by howling at the moon over something that's not going to change. Better to put energy into constructive solutions and at least the appaearance of cooperation, and then others will be more accomodating too.

As a smoker of cigars I must admit I miss not being able to relax for an hour or two with a pint and a smoke while I read or work on my latest project in the very comfortable armchairs that my local pub provides.

I'm not against the ban per se, and do agree with the arguments put forward from the non-smokers, but while smokers can nip outside for a 'quick fag', it's a little more difficult to nip out to quickly smoke a cigar

Much is made of the secondary smoking damage to 'innocent' victims, and I do accept that this is a reality, but this whole debate got me thinking about the secondary drinking damage that is done to a great many people by those who cannot handle their ale? How many fights, and muggings, and stabbings, and general abuse is dished out to drinkers and non-drinkers alike, who can arguably be called the victims of 'passive alocoholism' or 'passive drinking' even, much the same way as non-smokers are subjected to passive smoking.

Perhaps we should go the whole hog and ban drinking altogether in pubs and restaurants, so that this anti-social practice can be stamped out. Then those who wish to drink can join those who wish to smoke by staying at home and doing so.

Just a thought.....

In many ways I agree, we take the rights of all of those who cross our path everytime we drink and drive and yet have we thought about prohibition again.

I will say I fought and for the time being found a compromise in our town as far as the smoking ban, I saw first hand what it had done to some of the smaller mom and pop places in New York. I didn't want that to happen here. Places that their primary business is food, no smoking, bars smoking. The choices for employees is work there or not.

I agree with who ever said that if we keep allowing it, soon we will have no choices at all, big brother will be the Master and we will all be his little subbies.

I come from a smoking family and yet never smoked at all, not even to try because I dislike the smell, taste and sensations/colour of second hand cigarrette smoke, however, cigar (and pipe) are completely different - they are much more fragrant and you can tell the difference between the seperate types and being synaesthesic the sensations are fantastic that are produced - and wonderful - so it isn't only the smokers that lose out on a ban such as this.

I believe it is just completely irrational to not allow business the choice of which business they wish to cater for.

Peace

The bars and restaurants in Georgia (USA) DO have a choice with the no smoking ban.  They can provide a separate "smoking area" with separate heating, cooling, ventilation and a sealed door from the rest of the restaurant/bar -or- they can go to a strict 21-and-over policy.

There is at least one local restaurant that has gone to 21-and-over policy so that they can remain a smoking establishment without any other changes to the establishment.

The smoking ban works for us here. But I do agree there should be a privacy screen or fence set up for stepping outside in fetish wear, the trench coat works fine but an outside privacy area would be better.  problem is that a lot of clubs either don't have a good place or did not think that far ahead.

Here at home, we only allow smoking in the front yard (it has a covered  porch area if it rains). We put out chairs, tables, and there is shade. Since it is a residential area, we don't have nudity or fetish wear outside.  The only worry will be later this fall in the hot tub area, since i know smokers don't want to get dressed and go all the way to the front yard for that.. so for those nights will put a pavillion out in the yard, away from others, for the smokers, so they don't have to get dress from out of the hot tub, for their need.

Mostly get use to it.. changes are a coming.. been bans all over and there will be more.. change is hard but it is happening..   it's weird to walk into the gay leather bars and actually be able to breath in there. weird but also nice.

The other problem I found was that absent my nicotine fixes, I became quite drowsy. Not a good state of mind for play in my opinion.

Welcome to my world. At the regular SM/Fetish party where smoking *is* alowed, *I* often get dizzy or tears in my eyes. But unlike you, I can't prevent it from happening as long as smoking is allowed. You can (when you quite, withdrawal symptoms will ease within days).

We have a coffee house here in Louisiana that always sold alcohol.  Forever we were the only smoking coffee house.  People that smoked came here, people that didn't went to one of the others.  The smoking bans started coming here so we had to change the place to a bar (18+) to still allow smoking.  I can see that will be restricted as well soon enough.

My solution years ago to the play part is that I rented the space next door as a "private club."  We have a few play parties and such from time to time and have no restrictions as to how we operate.  Smoking or non-smoking is up to the people that come play.  Since it's next to a bar/cafe people are free to go out have a little food or drinks then walk next door and "get comfortable."  Nobody in the general public ever has any idea what we do unless they ask are interested of course.
Of course rent is rather cheap here.
