I'm a Boeing stockholder and I love to fly, so I'm naturally pleased that the 787 Dreamliner is doing so well.  But I seriously doubt the accuracy of this quote:

"But what about the passenger? Boeing's mockups of the interior are roomy with bigger overhead luggage bins and bigger windows. The windows look straight out, not down. Bair says a Boeing study showed passengers wanted to look at the horizon, not down at the ground."

Seriously...What the heck is there to look at if the windows look straight out?  Who the heck wants to stare at the horizon for 4-12 hours?  At least if the windows look down, you can see the ground...People are morons!

I'd dig a glass bottom lounge in an airliner.

I fly a hell of a lot.

I'd love a taller window.  I'm tired of crouching by the window for a bit of a look into the distance.  And when you're at lower altitudes, it would be even handier.  The taller you are, the worse the view.

Not exactly a moron,

That's true about window height...I'm just thinking more of the cause-effect rationale in the article.  Higher windows because people want to see the sky, not the ground.  Just seems totally illogical and pointless to me.  If you had a choice between seeing more of the sky or more of the ground, which would you pick?

I used to fly a lot.  (work and married to a flight attendant for a while)  Im usually asleep in my seat prior to the wheels leaving the runway.  On long flights I might wake up long enough to have a Scotch.

Sinergy

p.s. flight attendants think Im the perfect passenger.

The ground of course.
Nothing like flying into Shannon, Ire airport early in the morning and looking down at the farms, inlets, bays etc as you're making the approach.
Can't beat VFR.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Morons in Planes (7/7/2007 2:10:46 PM)

I really enjoy sky views when there's interesting weather in the area.

That's a dumb question.

The obvious answer is; the big titted blonde in 2C.

farglebargle -> RE: Morons in Planes (7/7/2007 4:52:31 PM)

The really good view is up in front.

I fucking hate Commercial Air.

RigidChopper -> RE: Morons in Planes (7/7/2007 4:57:22 PM)

I merely want natural light.

wandersalone -> RE: Morons in Planes (7/9/2007 12:16:27 AM)

I am probably not understanding something here...isn't a person able to see both the ground and the sky from their window on a plane.  It may be that they need to focus further away but they will still see the ground (if they are close enough) in the horizon.  My car windscreen is angled kind of backwards towards me but I can still see the road, the cars in front and to the side and the sky.

I like looking out at the clouds when flying but spend most of my time reading or walking around.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Morons in Planes (7/9/2007 12:20:21 AM)

Personally I'd enjoy fucking on a plane, but it's usually too cramped, so I just sleep instead.  I don't give a shit about the windows.  Let's have a designated fornication zone instead.

ArizonaSunSwitch -> RE: Morons in Planes (7/9/2007 12:22:38 AM)

More people would get sick if the windows offered anything near a straight down view.

meatcleaver -> RE: Morons in Planes (7/9/2007 2:30:12 AM)

Planes are but buses with wings and most buses I've been on are more comfortable than planes so any improvement is welcome. If you had to sit on a bus for ten hours I'm sure they would give you more room than you get on the average plane. It will still be a case of pack 'em in and get as much money as you can attitude by the air companies. However, no matter how good the planes are, the real problem with flying are the airports where you are treated like cattle, even before all the terrorist scares. Now flying is a pure pain in the arse. The last time I flew a couple of weeks ago from Amsterdam to Geneva, I had a three hour wait (checking in is two hours before flight) to take a one and a half hour flight. The cafes in airports are always expensive and the beverages shite (everywhere) and airports are designed to be luxury cattle sheds. Next time I think I will use my motorbike, it wouldn't take me much longer to get to my destination. No matter how good the plane, as long as it flies, the plane is but a small part of the whole flying experience.
