Poland also permits the firing of cross-dressers. ahhhh, free market = lack of a soul :( gotya ;).... ummm, btw..there are untold millions who would of stopped and helped,,and they live in the same free market system

I don't know, I'd rather react and do something. I don't believe that first aid is such an esoteric skill or that difficult. And from what I can remember with first aid you're probably not meant to deal with injuries or problems (unless of course we're talking cardiac arrest or some other life-threatening situation) but to do something which will help alleviate symptoms such as helping to prevent the loss of blood until real medical help or a doctor arrives on the scene. Sometimes you might not be able to do much, but it's your presence which would go to reassuring that person which also may help. But I don't know. I've never laid anywhere dying being ignored by people and I hope I never will. Would I know whether to remove a knife or leave it in in a stab wound? Maybe not, but I would know that a tourniquet made from clothing could help reduce the loss of blood. And applying a tourniquet may buy several minutes until a doctor or paramedic arrives on the scene. It's not enough to teach this stuff in schools. I also feel that such information should be made freely available and that much more use made of public awareness.

You may not be able to do CPR but pick up your damn cell phone, call a clerk or something for God's sake! Walking over a person and taking pictures just shows how callus and uncaring people are. This is so sad to see. If there isn't a law there should be one that not rendering aid is a crime. This should be for all over the world and here. The people that didn't help should be hanging their heads in shame and i hope it is found out who they are and announced publicly. I hope they are proud of themselves. Are we better as a society than the time of our parents? (WWII etc.) Makes me wonder..

Well yes, if you care to make that generalisation. I wasn't necessarily making that sort of generalisation but commenting on an incident. Yes there are millions living in the free market system who would have stopped and helped, just as almost everyone places a much higher value on human life. Therefore I agree with you. But I also see some who don't. And this to me includes these who just stepped over this woman as if she was a carcass of meat and whoever took the picture on the cellphone. Obviously to these few getting the shopping in was far more important, getting a photo was more important than dialling 911, and this to me suggests the placing of material values higher than that of human life. Would I be prepared to stand by my suggestion, or assertion? No, because I don't understand the behaviour of these people any more than anyone else. But the fact remains the same, could have, should have, but didn't.
