I drank Stroh's which was actually pretty good stuff. Better than Bear Whiz or Coors, anyway. Plus, it was a hometown product. For rotgut, we drank Meister Brau 'cause it came in "Jumbos". I don't drink at all now. Not since '96. Sheesh, I am such a fucking boy scout!

Let me get this right - Carling Black Label was sold in the US too? How in heck did they get away with that? Surely the FDA have intervened since?

By the way, its still here. About twenty dollars for a case of 24 cans at my local store.

Like I said in the GOOD BEER thread, I am a Canadian so good beer was always available here cheap...stuff you giuys probably consider premium imports: Molson Canadian, Labbatt's Blue, Moosehead, Alpine, Molson Golden, Foster's...Canada is a great country if you are a beer drinker

Are you talking about the crap we referred to as Natural ASS?
Ugggg!

Being the redneck cracker from down south Florida we fermented citrus by burying it in the ground for a spell. Lawdy that stuff would make you speak in tongues.

Oh, let's not forget mushroom tea or even wine made from the fruit of the prickly-pear cactus. Some more of those strange-brews that were commonly drank down here.

There were also few family members that made a crystal clear  home brew that would run your tractor, strip paint off your pick up truck & make a body rip its clothes off & jump into watering holes from the tree tops before you had sense enough to wade in & check to see how deep or shallow it might be.... yup, had to yank a cousin or 3 out by his ankles after he found himself waist deep in the mud.... starting at his burr shaved head.

Crazy fracking rednecks.

Well then around 1985 I found myself stranded in Cincinnati, Ohio during my gypsy days... I'll probably fudge the spelling but there was a brewery there, Christian Morlens (?).... oh gawd... made Blatz taste like Dom Perignon. One of the crew I was traveling around with got a job there & brought home cases of the stuff every night. The only reason we drank it was to fill our starving bellies.

I'm not much of a drinker these days. I still have a big bottle of Absolute that I bought for Christmas '04 sitting in the back of the fridge. I think we made 3 drinks off of it. When we go out I stick with Guinness & I recently discovered Blue Moon. Most often neither are available & I end up drinking ginger ale.

My favored drink would be Patron Tequila (any mix, its all smoooooth) but I haven't had a shot in quite some time. Its typically an item I'll buy for myself once in a great while. My last bender was 2 yrs ago when I kinda got lured into hanging out with 5 fun-fabulous-great-gay-guy-friends & I got totally wasted on Captain Morgan's. We had just finished all our final preparations for the 2004 Pride & we went out for what was supposed to be 1 drink.... riiiiiight!

We actually had a beer called 'Generic Beer'. It was in a white can with black lettering. Was about a buck a six pack. Would get you drunk but omg the hangovers were pretty bad.

xBullx -> RE: What kind of CHEAP beer did you drink when you were a kid? (7/3/2007 7:08:05 PM)

holy shit, I forgot about that crap....I got a headache just reading that post................lol...........when I was a young fellow at Ft Bragg and we were between paydays the funds got realy low and we resorted to cheap beverages, Generic became the, the, the uhmmm fluid of choice. It was better than rubbing alocohol, but just bearly.

I actually found a can back in my old room at home a couple years ago...was tempted to open it up but that passed with the thought of all the times I got sick from it.

I remember a version of that, but with brown lettering.  You could get it at Smith's Food King in Santa Barbara, back in the late '70s.

I never drank it... but some of my classmates did!
