Reality is setting in....... eeeks Over the last few years my next has been emptying. Something many look forward to, other actually plan ahead. I believe I have done both. I have had this picture in my head of what it will look like when the ability to have a life where I can give a little bit more of me, to me. I also tried to plan ahead and prepare myself for life on my own again after OMG almost 30 years. Then again life does get in the way with its remnants. My Demon Spawn have scattered from one end of the country to the other. Reality is here now, I see once again my forethought and planning were not quite on target. When I saw the house emptying, I accepted a Transfer with the company I work for. I’m heading 3000 miles away from what has been ~home~ if only in the use of the word ~home~ rather then a warm feeling. I’m here today because I know I’m not the first to live through this, and I’m sure the empty next, moving to a new area and living on a tight budget effects not only Submissives but Dominants as well. I am hoping some of you may share tips or stories of how you’ve managed on your own after all those years. Thanks in advance!

Get a second job. That's what I did. It's some extra cash and benefits, and uses up 12 extra hours in my week. It's only tough the first few months, until you get used to it. I miss my ums, but I enjoy my quiet house and the freedom to do what I want when I want. For instance, this weekend I went to the big city (Pittsburgh) and had a great time and didn't have to worry about other people's schedules. Sweet freedom . . .

Actually that is just what I spent the morning doing, searching for job #2. I'm not sure how fruitfull any job search will be until I do get moved though, most employers do not take you seriously when your not local or local (yet).... anyone need a part time employee in the Pacific Northwest?

That is where you moved? The Pacific Northwest? Weren't you in the Virginia area? I was going to ask if you moved 300 miles west (meaning closer to me), but crap, you moved across the country.....bitch.

That's a FRIDAY, I work until 8pm. So I can't do it. That's the problem with the 2 job thingy.

good luck.....i wish i had advice....my 19 yo still lives with me-some days i think he will never leave, and some days i hope he never does........

Based upon my experience they come back. Then when they finnaly quit coming back their kids come to live. I don't think it really ever ends.

We love being empty nest for the following reasons: can make all the noise we want when playing; can wander around naked; can display more D/s throughout the day; more time for golf; fewer schedules to meet; less clutter in the house; less sharing of the computer; and don't have to wake her up a 5 am for work The down side is that i have to do the chores our daughter used to do. We do miss our daughters and look forward to their visits. Here's a thread i started in May when our youngest left: empty nest

Well I'm not a mother but my mother is :) When I left for college, she was thrilled I was gone...she'd been planning ahead for a couple of years! Now I'm living at home again, but I have a separate house, so she still has her privacy. She says she loves being able to have sex in the middle of the day in the living room, to walk around naked, etc. She goes on a cruise every year. She competes in rodeos and horse shows and dedicates almost all her free time to the horses, just as I do... She goes dancing at least once a month. She's involved with two different riding clubs. She just basically has a blast and doesn't look back..she is 44yrs old, I've been "grown" for 6 years. So since age 38, she's been living it up and having a grande ole time and says she wouldn't have another kid in her life for love nor money!

What I like about living alone is that I no longer have to cook. I used to spend a fortune on food, no longer. If I want a dinner of graham crackers and vanilla icing from a can, so be it. If I want to wonder around the house in a tank top and underwear, that's what I do. It sounds sort of low class, but I consider it good times, especially on a lazy weekend morning.

Congrats on the move Quivver!!! Right off the bat there's a fun new place to discover and check out. That should keep you plenty busy as it is. I had a very difficult adjustment to Empty Nest. It was the first time I had ever lived alone in my life for that matter having become a parent at barely 18. We hadn't even been apart for more than a month at any time during his life and were extremely close. I think I followed the transport most of the way to St. Louis the day he left for Basic Training. I was truly a mess. After 6 months of moping I realized that it was the first time in my life I could be me. No responsibilities, no schedules. I truly had the world at my feet. So I started taking classes. Thai cooking. French cuisine. Wine Tasting. Horticulture. Salsa Dancing. Ballroom Dancing. What interests you? What have you always wanted to learn? Little did I know the road that was leading me down! I started volunteering. A local whippet/greyhound rescue, the senior retirement center and Habitat for Humanities are the ones I've found most rewarding and I enjoy the most. Then last year the big plunge. I resigned my position and went to school in an accelerated program. Talk about mind blowing. I finished the coursework 4 days ago. There's a whole new world opening up at 41 that I am loving on a daily basis. The world is your oyster...the opportunities are limitless. Love it and embrace it. Yeah YOU!
