OMG- they told me I would have to offficially file an appeal and then go before the board- and the assessment can go the other way- and + pay a fee. I gathered up my evidence and filed the appeal last week.

I WON!!!

Approximately 30% reduction in my real estate assessment!!

OMG OMG!!

Way to go! And lucky you - my council tax (which I believe is the UK equivalent) is somewhere in the region of $2,000 this year

I've still got you beat, $467 per year.
And I haven't filed for my Veteran's preference yet.
And I'm on a golf course.
If this place were back in New Hampshire I'd be paying $6,000 per year!

If this is your first time congrats and welcome to the world of kick government ass.

SSDD here too.

jerkoffs assessed a 50 buck parking lein on my property.  i told them there is no provisions in code for that assessment.  Its like people out here wake up they obfuscate the code and tell you any damn thing!  So i appealled also to the city council with specific filing instructions.  They did not follow those instructions as i requested which are within their normal operating procedure.  Mean time city dropped the lein.   So now i filed as a result of a lien being placed on my property, any bets no lien was placed?

yesterday i wrote a letter to the city requesting a copy of the discharged lien.  Any bets there is none?  hint: (fraud).

So i called up the city council and told them i left them with specific instructions and i expect to be heard regardless if they dropped the charges or not.

So here we go!  LOL

The hearing by the way is to determine whether or not the city followed proper protocol where i of course sited in the complaint what he said and that there is no provision in code.

The city already acquiesced so they cant go back on that on ie they fucked themselves at thius point.  apparently no one calls them out on these things, they lie, drop the case and everyone goes home happy.

well except me.

So...............  add this all up and we have a party about to start.

the assessor offerred me a compromise- which avoided an official meeting/hearing- which no doubt would have generated local press- pointing to the no rryme or reason  to how rates are arived at. All i did was compile a stack of properties in same town on a real estate broker for sale site. Each listing mentions the taxes. well 95% do. so simply printing these up- made the whole system look clown like. when i called- they assured me i was properly assessed. however when i formally filed the appeal- they offerred a comprmise. i accepted the compromise as it was fair- and we avoid any hearings. [which would have inspired many others to appeal--]

funny enuff when i tried this in chicago- i only got 3%. my taxes went up 67% there- then after i fought it- was an election year- so they gave me 4%.

anyhow=-i am delighted that this outcome came as it did. there is in fact a disabled rebate- of $650.00- which brings my total bill to $50.00- maybe $100.00. but bare in mind my income is fixed- hence the rebate.

how much cheaper does it get?

LOL

that is how its done.  they give you a good deal you cant turn down you know.  i have a real hardon (like anyone here hasnt noticed), for dishonesty in government.  i figure if they lied to me they are lying ot every one else as well.  So now i got these assholes by the short hairs and deal or no deal i will expose their asses for what they are doing, hopefully so they do not do it to the next guy.

i get a sort of bad fucking tude when they fuck with me.

oh and btw i would tell all your neighbors what a good deal they gave you so they have a fucking line up of cases to deal with!

Just a little thank you....  :)

To be fair- this place is in a small town- with no job base. im not conveniently located to a metro- so- one pays to be near the jobs. also this place needs alot of work.  god willing - i should be ok.

:-)

if u dont ask- you dont get. :-)

well there is some hostility as this was a foreclosure-everyone and their brother wanted it. they reported me to code 2 x in 30 days. so- there is that aspect of it too.

if the whole town pays less- then the % must go up- which would then raise my taxes. someone has to pay into the till- plain and simple.

reeding between the lines- i may do the oppisite- and tell the neighbors they are underassessed....just to keep em guesssing.  stranger things have happened...lol
