Perhaps it's time to tear the cobblestone up and re-set them using concrete instead of dirt...let's see the suckers get through THAT...heh. *smile*

garden felt or plastic more like it, and spray the shit out of it with 2,4-d then lay the cobblestones back on and if you sand fill it spray it with 2,4-d in the wheelbarrow and mix it with a hoe....otherwise, get one of the addon jars for that shit for your hose, and sprinkle the cobblestone path pretty often with the mixture and dont dig it up.

Or, alternatively, get a hankering for young dandilion leaves in your salads

Here's a brand new, radical approach: Let Them Be. =)

Dandelions and clover provide nectar for bees, bugs, and other living critters.

OR.. replace some parts of your yard with another ground cover. Remove the sod, mulch heavily for a year or so, till the mulch into soil, add some compost, and add some pretty groundcover. Maybe some vinca or chamomile.

OR.. make a few island flower beds. =)

I try to avoid chemical herbicides, they're a very last resort. I'd rather put up with dandelions then put that poison on my precious earth.

i adore dandelions and clover.....they provided me with a way to give my mom a bouquet of flowers when i was a child, and i still have a few dried bouquets my son picked for me and presented so proudly.............beats hell outa a dozen roses any day....

i like clover and will generally leave it alone (unless it falls victim to the lawnmower blade)..however with a severe bee allergy, it's in my best interest to keep the "bee friendlies" to a minimum *smile*

i'm not a big fan of herbicides or chemicals either, especially in my gardens...but when the weeds take over the pathways it's not only unsightly, but a danger, especially if they get out of control (tripping hazard, i know, i'm a klutz...got the skinned knees to prove it...and get your minds out of the gutter, skinned knees is much different than rugburn *wink*) *smile*

Thank you! i'll have to put those ideas to the test *smile*...as for dandelion leaves in my salad...i think i'd be much more agreeable to developing a taste for dandelion wine

With a three acre yard I try to avoid most all chemicals. Our soil is pretty shitty and I generally have to compost the hell out of it to get stuff to grow....other than the pasture stuff from before there was a house there. The only weed I worry about are the thistles and I just make sure I dig them out before they flower. Everything else just gets mowed. Because of all the furry babies and the grands that romp through the yard I try and avoid chemicals or just use them in spots when necessary. Like I will this fall to destroy some vicious thorny locust trees that are currently living under the assumption I will allow them to grow in my horse pasture.

As far as watering. Because the house is relatively new we have no well but instead are on rural water, expensive as hell. So, I have rain barrels on every downspot for watering and I mulch the hell out of everything to help cut down the need for watering. Even my veggie patch gets grass mulched and it makes a huge difference in soil water retention. It also helps keep the weeds out of the beds which is a bonus.

I always had good results with "Scotts Turfbuilder Plus 2"
Buy a bag or two depending on the size of your lawn, a cheap spreader and in two weeks you'll notice a big difference!
Nice lush lawn and no dandilions or weeds!

There have been a few ants penetrate it but no weeds whatsoever.
I bag that weighs about 40 pounds was around 10 dollars. I used maybe half a bag for a 20 foot section. Definately well worth the price.

Am I the only one who finds this monoculture of foreign(For most of us, it aint local grasses), high maintenance plants, coupled with the endless water-to-make-it-grow/chop-off-the-top cycle somewhat tedious, unnatural, and anything but environmentally friendly?

I mean, a slightly longer, local grass with some wildflowers, some bugs, and a few shrubs would provide much better cover for an outdoor flogging, no?

Well now! The price is right up my alley and sounds relatively simple enough...the cobblestone section i have is approximately 15ft in length...i'll have to dig them out but heck, if it means i win this standoff *yippee!!!!*

That's what i tried doing... last year i left the back yard completely alone... whatever the hell took root there ended up growing almost 8 feet tall and made the yard impassable. i didn't care- plenty of parking out front... didn't go over so well with my wife, tho

Garden felt hasn't worked for us yet. I'm going to try the Scott's turfbuilder next...can't hurt. If it also helps the lawn all the better. The bleach idea sounded good for some of the weeds until people said it didn't work.

Problem with allowing the weeds and other stuff to grow too high is it gets ticks in it. We've already been battling them as well.
