-laughs- I couldn't resist that title, but anyway, here's the thing. It just occured to me while scrolling down another home page profile, that the majority of Dominants I've spoken with like to cook. With Dommes, I don't see it as sooo out of the ordinary. But how about the Dom thing? Because I know I've met more men in the l/s that enjoy cooking than I've ever met outside it. So does it go hand in hand with the being in control thing? Or is it just a totally random occurence? Silly, I know, but it was one of those "lightbulb over the head" realizations. Will be interested to see what anyone thinks...*or if you all just think i'm off my rocker*

I think alot of it may have to do with Dominants likeing to "take care" of their sub and create that Nurturing environment.

It has to do with getting laid.  Women, especially younger ones are impressed by a guy who can do something other than order pizza.  Cooking a nice dinner, drinking a bit of wine, and a foot massage is like throwing chum in the water for sharks...

I genuinely enjoy cooking, I live within walking distance of one of the best farmer's markets in California, I have a gas stove (used to have a vintage Wedgewood...boo hoo), and when I moved out at 18 I had a dinner service for eight, compleate with placemats and cloth napkins.

Part of it is control, or perhaps control makes it more enjoyable.  I certainly enjoy spoiling my little girl with a nice french omeolette for breakfast or a crimini mushroom risotto for dinner.

I can't cook. As a matter of fact, this is sort of my food plan: make lots of money, be able to set up my own Olive Garden in the dinning wing of those house. I can't tell you how much I love those Chicken Alfredo Pizzas they make..

I normally like it when a sub can cook. I think it's probably a plus on most anyone, despite their stance, be it Dom, sub, or vanilla.

I cook because I was raised to be able to perform all kinds of tasks. I can clean house, do the gardening, perform all kinds of common home improvements, sew, cook, rebuild a car, build or fix a computer, etc.

By contrast to myself I find most americans lacking in these skills, esp. the younger set. (Yup, I just made another one of those "most" statements...)

I think it's how people are raised. If they are raised to value these kinds of skills and that food is an important aspect of their culture then they are inclined to acquire these skills.

I'm a definite foodie. I love the entire experience of eating, and that includes cooking what you eat. Layering tastes and textures to create something heavenly almost does it for me as much as that really intense level of play that just sends you into tingles. As such, I find that because food is something I enjoy so much, that any man I'm with (either Dominant or submissive) will get along better with Me if cooking is something we're able to do together and enjoy with eachother. The same rings true for males of either side of the lash that are adventurous eaters and who are really unpicky about the types of food they like. Having a broad spectrum of cuisine to choose from is much more entertaining and delicious than limiting yourself to a few dishes and never coloring (or tasting) outside the lines. As a side note, My goal in life is to open either a bakery or a bed&breakfast. :) The world would be a much happier place if cookies were readily available to the general public.
