Kids playing in a pool in the daytime..... noise to be expected sorry.

Alcoholic neighbour playing loud music in the company of several other alcoholics all shouting their heads off and occasionally getting into fights with one another until 3am........ not much one can do legally, as neither he nor they are concerned at prosecution and couldnt pay a fine anyway.

Do they own, or rent? If renting, sometimes you can have them booted out.

I would take them to court if it couldn't be resolved another way. I would also 'accidently' shoot the side of the pool with my bbgun.
My neighbors are about 600 feet away which is a good distance but their kids literally scream for hours & it drives me. out. of. my. tiny. little. mind!!! IMO it is a lack of discipline and a sheer lack of caring about shared space. If I weren't scared by the parents I would call on my own neighbors. They just got a PA system installed.... it shatters the silence of an otherwise normal rural area.

No I would not....

Hope this pisses the judge off for wasting courts time ....and he throws it out. But not before making the ones who files this stupid complaint to pay all court cost and perhaps more....

I sympathize, jenny. I hate noise, it's just the way I am. And I hate idiots that don't have any concern for anyone else.

A PA system? For what?

i have not yet heard if anyone went to the people before filing the court case and asked them to keep it down.  if they didnt do that, shame on them.

once while on vacation, while lying on a float in a pool, the parent of 3 adorable kids told them to quit splashing each other because they might get me wet. i laughed and said i am in a pool-as long as they dont jump in the middle of my float-let them be kids.

i find the sounds of kids being kids pleasant, but then im a manager of an elementary school cafeteria and have years of experience of blocking it out.

i have to say, this ending in court, to me anyhow, is dumb as hell.

Jessica, I have a simple rule of thumb: if I can hear you while I'm inside my house, it's too loud. If I'm outside, different story (except for truly excessive noise, like a car stereo BOOOOOM BOOOOM BOOOOOMING )

I don't know if they spoke to the parents, but I agree, if they didn't, they should have. And of course, the kids aren't evil or anything, they're just having fun, but I thought setting stuff on fire was fun, I had to be taught not to do it lol.

Damn, I thought this thread was about hearing your neighbors having sex.   Once shared a bedroom wall with neighbors who had such great sex sounding sex i was frequently tempted to knock on the door and ask to join in.

As to the OP, the occasional shrieks of kids having fun (especially little girls, we know how piercing that can be) is no big deal, but i think i would be annoyed  if it were non stop, even during daylight hours.   We were taught as children not to scream or shriek in excess  so that if we ever needed help, our screams would be heeded and not just an assumption of loud play.

Level they installed a PA system in our shared forest for,

FUN. Yes, fun. *sobs hysterically as the shrieks become amplified*

Kid noise tends to bug me at any rate, I can't help it. I am a silence sort of person. Plus they have 8 dogs. I'm dooooooomed.

Oh wow, that does suck . Is there any kind of noise ordinance? But you mentioned being afraid of them, that makes it tough....

The dogs might not bug me. I think there are different "triggers" for getting on people's nerves, for instance, things like construction, or lawn mowers, does not bug me at all, in fact, I like it. But stereos, screaming, and just bouncing a ball over and over (and over).........not good.

From the story, apparently the guy had already installed a hedge, a wall, and a waterfall to try to muffle the amount of noise, add on to that, he was one of 6 or 7 neighbors that had complained, and yes, if he had already spoken to the parents, I think he was justified in taking them to court, what other recourse did he have? I used to live in a condo, thin walls, and the neighbors would frequently leave their two teenage boys at home alone (yes, they're old enough to be home alone, I know)..the problem was, as soon as they were alone, the stereo would get jacked up, you could literally hear them jumping off the beds wrestling each other, etc. I spoke to the mom a couple times, and she basically acted nastily toward me (a.."what right do you have to tell me how my kids should act".. type deal), and finally I ended up calling the cops. After that happened about three times, things finally settled down. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I don't think it's unreasonable to have a certain expectation of peace while in your own home. Just my two cents..

He rents - not that he pays for it of course, its all on the taxpayer.

I've complained to the letting agent - not interested. I even searched the UK Land Registry and found out who owns the place - a woman 20 miles away, and she's not interested either. Next up is the local council that covers his rent for him, but the problem there is, they have nowhere to move him to so they wont move him anyway.

Crikey I love this neighbourhood. I wish we had more Muslims and fewer addicts. Never hear a peep from the Muslims, and they behave themselves well too. Ideal neighbours, if they spoke English.

This is why I don't have any close neighbors.  I value my privacy.  I have a flag lot and sit back off of the road about 800 feet.  I can play my stereo as loud as I want, scream in a pool and walk around nude and not a single person is affected.  I could never live in a developement.

Aww jenny  ... children can be pests at the best of times, but they're necessary pests, I suppose, and they're human after all (rofl), but EIGHT DOGS?

G'morn kittin. I'd rather have 8 dogs  next door than 1 kidlet. I think I'm going to end up one of those weird nasty old cat ladies who terrorizes all the neighborhood kids!

I suppose it's a matter of taste... me, I dislike dogs with a vengeance, especially those little carpetty genetically-engineered creations that yap all day and bite your ankles. You know, the kind that gets taken to the hairdresser and that shits everywhere? *Violent shudder*.

Goes without saying that I prefer cats.

But I'd prefer having children around than dogs! Still, it doesn't solve your predicament. Have you considered inviting them all around for tea and cakes and to have a regular, reasonable conversation about it?

I guess you have, huh...

Sadly enough it seems that Y/you would have little recourse  other than court. As an educator i see more parents these days that truelly care, but are inundated by the responsibility of child rearing . Everyone is off working to get ahead so that they can do better for their children's future ,yet what they do not understand is that the children need them now. All i know is ,if my mother had not been so strict on us ( all 6 )  , we would all most likely be on some sort of welfare system. Good manners are a must in any society. i say , spank the lot of them. If that does not work, ball gags for ALL!
