cyberdude611 -> Gallup: Confidence in Congress at all-time low (6/21/2007 1:27:50 PM)

You ask around if people are confident of the US Congress and you might have trouble finding any positive remarks. Gallup shows that only 14% of Americans have confidence in the Democratic-lead congress. This is the lowest rating ever recored since Gallup started doing the annual poll in 1973. The previous low was in 1993-1994 at 18%.....When Democrats lost control of Congress.

Even though Democrats have been for the most part blocked from pushing forward legislation due to President Bush's veto threats and a powerful GOP minority, voters are not being very forgiving.

However it is also important to note that all parts of government is showing a downward trend...
-Only 34% have high confidence in the Supreme Court --- Down from 40% last year.
-Only 25% have high confidence of President Bush --- Down from 33% last year.
-Confidence in the police has fallen to 54% --- Down from 58% last year.
-Confidence in public schools is down to 33%. The healthcare system down to 31%. The criminal Justice system is down to 19%.
-The media has also suffered. Only 21% of Americans have high confidence in newspapers and the media.

There only two parts of the country that have good high confidence numbers of the institutions measured in the poll: They are Small Businesses (59%) and the military (69%).

And the Senate is trying to "craft" an Amnesty Bill to shove down our throats that's so unpopular that they have to use arcane laws and "behind closed doors" deals to try to get it passed.
Good news on that though, Georgia's and New Hampshire's Senators came out against it today!

Also Kay Bailey Hutchinson has said she will break with the White House and party leaders and no longer support the immigration bill.

I find it amusing that the Repubs are trying to point to these numbers to show the public's disaffection with the Democrats ... when in fact the most common complaint about Congress is that it hasn't been able to muster enough votes to oppose a Republican President.
