Level -> NY city mayor Michael Bloomberg leaves Republican party (6/19/2007 3:36:28 PM)

(CBS) NEW YORK CBS 2 HD has learned New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is leaving the Republican party and has announced he is currently unaffiliated with a political party.

The move will clearly begin advancing rumors that the mayor is gearing towards a presidential run, which he has denied in the past.

In a statement, however, Bloomberg indicated this doesn't change his plans for his political future.

Well, they never really did support Gays, despite what the RNC likes to say when they parade around Mary Cheney.

I take it you been happy with the lip service the DNC has given to gays?

I've always wondered why Bloomberg became a Republican in the first place, and I've suspected it was in order to distance himself from the bad smell that David Dinkins and other corrupt New York Democrats left behind.  Now that he's pretty much cemented his popularity in the City, he can move on to bigger things, and on the national stage he's no Republican.

Do rubes in the sticks really think he's "Cemented his popularity in the City?" Are his media company and PR efforts that effective?

Now let's see.  When Bloomberg was re-elected in 2005, he trounced Ferrer, the Democratic nominee, by nearly 20 points.  No Republican mayoral candidate had ever done better.  Ever.

I'd call that cementing his popularity, even if the rubes in places like Albany don't want to hear it.

Leiberman/Bloomberg 2008

Running on a ticket of "We will tell you anything as long as you elect us."

You *BELIEVE* the numbers they make up to put into the election results???

What did Emma Goldman tell us all, so long ago? Anyone?

Here's a hint. Chicago LEARNED machine politics from Albany.

Yeah, I *know* what one is, but it's not appropriate to the discussion in any way.
