Kind of funny you mention ADD, as my girl says she has an attention problem like that. I have been having her read a book on different meditation methods and she has been meditating now for about a month. Her stress levels are down, depression periods less, focus is better and she has less minor physical ailments. I learned Tai Chi , some Yoga techniques and meditation about 8 years ago, so that I could avoid back surgery. Not only have I avoided back surgery, but those things along with just a little more exercise and slightly better diet, I am now in the same size close I was when I was 21. I truly believe in the balance of mind, body and spirit/emotions/whatever you want to call it. When one is out of balance it effects the other. It makes sense from a scientific point as well. I would have to do the research but certain hormones are released when in a deep meditation, the breathing exercises help keep stale air out of the lungs and helps keep the blood oxygenated, and a more positive, less stressful attitude helps boost the immune system. The basic technique that I taught my girl, is the relaxed position sitting or laying down, closing the eyes, concentrate on the breathing and she listens to something basically rhythmic, such as the fan in the room. For deep meditation I use a few different forms of Zen. For short meditation, I use breathing, a fan or candle flicker. Pursed lip breathing techniques can also help rid the lungs of stale air, and cause the body to release hormones that releave stress. There is a wealth of information out there, and trying many different ones to find the ones that fit yourself is usually what I recommend. Orion quote:
