ORIGINAL: slaverosebeauty Adults are suppose to be mature enough to handle that stuff. I DO like the idea of 18 means 18. Period. No admitance to ANYONE under age 18. I'm gonna stir up some trouble and write to the movie ratings board. I'm sure the mom's groups I am in will jump on board. there already IS a rating above R. it's called NC-17 and has been a flop. it was introduced around 1990. Only a handful of films have ever been marked with that rating. Most will simply re-edit down to an R or switch to NR. The problem that the NC-17 rating ran into was that it became synonymous with hard-core pornogrpahy, and as such film distributors (who are owned by shareholders and must thus pander to their opinions) and theatre owners wouldn't touch them with a barge pole for fear of upsetting the 'moral majority' who ironically seem to view being shot through the head with a nail gun as less damaging that watching two consenting adults have sex Thankfully, in this DVD age, many of the more extreme horror movies are able to release both R-rated and Unrated versions of their movies (which often contain just a few moments more gore, but not in every case) so we, the punters, can make our choice. It's a real shame that the NC-17 was hijacked like that, because if used properly and given the backing to be used as it was originally intended, to present challenging adult entertainment (and not just porno), then it would be a powerful tool for the entertainment industry as a whole.
