A more cynical view might hold that based on their behavior, the media's 'job' is apparently to make obscene profits for their owners, by adhering to an 'if it bleeds, it leads' creed.

If the media did that sort of job any better there would be twice as many dead and suffering in the world each day, and Moore could be twice as rich.

They say that the Iraqi army only needs two more years to mobilize and become an effective fighting force for their national security.  In the same period of time we've already been there doing training, the US mobilized from an army smaller that Portugal to confront and defeat both Germany and Japan.

That tells me that the political reality for the Iraqis is not aligned with the vision we have for the country.

MM has to be right sometimes because a broken clock (analog style)  is right 2x a day.

I must admit I admire MM - he may not always be right, he may get a little over-enthusiatic at times, he may have the worst beard in the history of the world, but at least he gets people talking and thinking, which has to count for something.

I do share his views on Bush, though - sadly you poor saps in the US have a while longer to endure his reign whereas at least here Tony Bliar (and yes, the misspelling is deliberate) is out of office in two weeks time. Apparently they've had a whip round in Parliament for a parting gift for him, which sadly is unlikely to be a dose of ebola, but we can hope..........

[tongueincheek]

I sometimes wonder if it would be best for the US and Britain to join back together like long-lost Siamese twins under the wise rule of King Charles and Seabiscuit.

The last 5 years has made me fine for the safety, security, and wisdom of Monarchy.

Do you mean we ought to make this ex-colony a rightful part of our kingdom again? I rather agree with you there, Sinergy. Since we left you to your own devices, you've made rather a mess of things, haven't you, you naughty little things.

Fine then, sigh sigh sigh, we'll take you back under our protective wing. But no tantrums! Or else!

Who cares, eh?  It's your thoughts that we're interested in, PA, not your spelling prowess. Besides, there was a study (no time to look for the link atm) that proved that providing that the first and last letter were correct, people could understand what seemed to be a jumbled, misspelt sentence.

The gist of it, though, was that a sentence like the one below could be understood because we interpret words as a whole rather than letter by letter....

"Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe."
