I'm not a puppy, I'm a kitty cat. But what do I get out of it? Playfulness. No thinking. I do what cats do. I exhibit interest when I'M interested in things, I sniff and turn my nose up at things I don't like, I lick myself in public, I play whenever I want to, I pounce on things that move.

I don't have to worry about appropriateness, maturity, or being good (unless I interrupt a seminar, which I would not do, I would take a nap instead). I get lots of lap and cuddle time. I get to lick and bite Daddy's hand, hiss at strangers who offend me.

The biggest draw for me is attention, petting, and disengaging my intellectual brain for a while.

I think the above puts it pretty well.   Also for some people who have issues with socializing, it is a way of being there but not.  I know when I spent some time as a bouncer back in my awkward youth it was that way for me.  I hated socializing and was never any good at it.  I was able to be social but with zero pressure becaue I "had" to be there anyway.  Very formative experience for me and I could see how being able to be Master's beloved pet would provide a similar freedom from having to deal with people.

Prof, I was at the same event this past weekend.  At first I thought she was, in fact, a fox.  Did you notice the tail?  Since I just saw her in passing, I wouldn't want to say one way or the other.

Puppy play doesn't always involve humiliation even though it can, it depends on the people involved if they feel that way about it.  A lot of the people I know with an interest in it will admit to enjoying it with or without humiliation added into the mix so it's easy to go from one extreme to the other :).  At least in my opinion, It's very different mindset that comes with puppy play than a lot of other things.  As a puppy there are an awful lot of things you can let go of and not worry about, and an awful lot of very humbling little things that come with it.  One of the first times I engaged in puppy play with another person after years of interest I was so excited and wanted to be a good puppy so badly.  Not long into it, I got a brief tug/shake at the leash just behind my collar and was scolded as a bad dog.  I was so upset and angry about being scolded seemingly for nothing, only to want to curl up and whimper a moment later when I was given the reason and had it explained that a puppy should be walking next to their leash holder rather than out in front trying to lead the way.  On a different day when I scratched on a bathroom door I was oddly proud to bark at the question of why I was doing that and be taken out on a leash to the backyard.  Think of it like a dog, very small and simple things can leave them all excited and happy and things that aren't all that different can leave them crushed and desperately hoping for redemption.  Plus puppy play goes well with lots and lots of other fun things and puppies are easy to train :)

Just yesterday I witnessed, at a public conference, a delightful puppy bitch, deep in her space for the entire day. At registration, she "sat" on the floor at the side, a beautiful woman in any setting dressed in full puppy regailia. She paid no more attention to me than any well-trained dog would have. Later she "sat" beside her Master in a general conference area, again on the floor and on her haunches, and remained completely in space. Occasionally she would bark or sniff at something, apparently without regard for any attention she would or would not receive ... just like a dog. I'm mystified. My admiration for her has encouraged me to ask --

I was there and took notice of her as well. Not only did she remain in pup space that day but everytime I saw her from morning to evening. She trotted around the hotel as if she had not a care in the world. Lucky her! Seriously, I don't understand it and the pups I know are very different from that type of play (or at least their pup play space is more limited than hers was.) I will definitely be interested to see the responses but as for myself I can only admire her devotion to the true puppy-ness she must posess.

It's a shame we all didn't get to meet. I did attempt to see who would be attending (posted under the upcoming events section but I guess I need to put it somewhere more visible next time.) And yes, I totally see the fox thing. I figured she was a puppy because of the way she was acting but the tail was not quite making me think "dog."

Yes, I know what you mean.  There were obviously several people from CM that were there that I didn't get a chance to actually "meet".  The only person that I recognized from His photo was Archer, and of course, He has His elegant were highly visual.  Even at that, it took Me some time to figure out where I had seen his face before!  <Laughs>
