ORIGINAL: Lordandmaster No, because having a team with 24 team-members and one hired gun with special privileges contradicts the nature of the game. That's like asking whether it's worth bringing about world peace through violence. And what's really disheartening is that if you polled the Houston Astros themselves, I bet all 24 of them would say it was a great idea. I think it says a lot that most baseball players seem to think Roger Clemens represents the essence of the game. I'm not sure about the Astros' poll; I've been trying to find some of the comments a few of them had after he signed with your guys.... ST. LOUIS -- The visitors' clubhouse at Busch Stadium was again the setting when the Houston Astros learned of Roger Clemens' plans. Last year, on May 31, they were in the very same clubhouse, preparing to play the Cardinals. This time, they had just lost to the Cardinals, and were packing up to move on to the next city. Same setting, same reaction. No one was surprised when Clemens re-signed with the Astros last year, and no one was at all shocked that he's headed to the Yankees this time. "There are two kinds of people," Lance Berkman said. "Those people who aren't surprised, and morons." As soon as Andy Pettitte signed with the Yankees last December, Berkman said, Clemens was as good as gone. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070506&content_id=1950174&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou And I remember one of the guys, maybe Berkman, maybe Oswalt, saying "Roger who?".... Now, maybe this is just a bunch of hurt feelings over him leaving, but I have to wonder if some of it isn't bitterness over the family clause.
