Status: offline 		Is it not time for the whole notion of a monarchy to go away? I believe that William is the last Britich monarch but seriously... Royals??? Ca Mon... it is soooo over.

I think both William and Harry are stand up guys, mMy problem is with the whole notion of a monarchy.

If something were to happen to William I wonder if a paternity test could be forced before he were ever allowed to take the position of King.

Who wants to be king next??


I suspect the princely genes have been sequenced and scrutinised already. HRH QE2 knows if the Hewitt rumour is true or not.

Americans show more deference to their President than Europeans do to their monarchies and crown a new one every four years.

The point about a constitutional monarchy is that the individuals are irrelevent. The important point is where the monarchy as an institution fits into the constitution and the division of powers there in. In Britain there have been prime ministers like Blair and Thatcher that would have you believe they are the head of state but the constitution (in theory) denies them and keeps them in their place and makes them look silly when they try to strut their stuff.

I know Americans think the monarchy has power because opposition to George III was used in the propaganda in the war of independence but he never had power other than to nominate the Prime Minister and hope Parliament approved. The war of independence was a war sanctioned by Parliament who has the power to levy taxes, the king didn't have such power.

Status: offline 		I disagree. William looks NOTHING like James Hewitt. He looks very much like his Mother. He even has the same "shy smile." The rumors that either boy were Hewitt's have long gone. Actually, I think it was Harry that was questioned because of the red hair. However, I think he favors Charles. Believe me, if the British monarchy suspected that either of those boys WERE NOT a Windsor, there would have been some DNA testing done and I am sure it would have been done discreetly. They are not about to let someone rule Britian that's not a truly royal and rightfully in line for the throne! Oh, and while I am NOT an expert, I have read alot of books on the life of Diana before and since her death.

Status: offline 		Until someone can come up with a better idea, then the monarchy stays as head of state in my view.

It is not as if we dont have enough scheming politicians with enough greasy poles to climb already,without having an executive presidential system, (which is hardly a flawless system either), to furnish us with more of both.

And quite what the non-executive presidential system is about I dont know. If we're to have an elected upper house (an error in my opinion - more greasy poles) then it would be somewhat incongruous to have an appointed non-exec president from the ranks of those whose pole climbing days are over - and an elected non-exec president would have a clear mandate conflicting with the prime minister.

Yes, the monarchy is outdated. Yes, its undermined. Yes, its ridiculous in the modern world. But unless there is something much better suggested, then why change it?

I was not speaking of William, I was talking about Harry, if you care to re-read my post. 
I don't think the the Queen or anyone of the Windsors want to know the truth about Harry's real lineage. It would be a really bad scandal...Harry to me looks exactly like James Hewitt. I believe he is his son and I also believe the Windsors would never, ever do DNA testing because they know the truth about it already and want to keep it all hidden. Just like they wanted Dianna hidden so she wouldn't embarrass the Royal family.
Well she may have gotten them in the end Huh? Giving birth to a bastard, with absolutely no blood lineage to the throne.
It would be very interesting indeed were something happen to William, (may the great spirit forbid).
I really wonder if they would let the truth be known and live with the disgrace or actually let a non-blood take the throne to prevent it.

You act like adultry is just a royal thing, it isn't.

I am wondering why you care so much what Princess Di did when she was alive, and why you care that the Brits have a monarchy. It seems pretty irrelevent to my life for the most part, other than a mild curiousity about how people in the UK feel about them.

They are talking about HARRY being the offspring of Hewitt, not William.

I do hope so. It'd be nice to know Diana had some joy in a loving relationship.

Its actually pretty irrelevant to us too. They have no political power but that awarded them by Parliament (we had a slight falling out in the 17th century). The one thing they do is to prevent us having a presidential system, which would be of no advantage whatever. Aside from that, they just make us a bit different to most other countries.
