I'm thinking of having cosmetic tattoos done (eyebrows and eyeliner). If you have had that done, how painful was it and any major swelling afterward? (and no funnin'- just the truth! LOL)

one of my cousins had it done and said it was just like getting a regular tattoo. some pain and redness but no real swelling unless it got infected somehow.
i wish you good luck, and hope you get your desired result!

My ex had her eyebrows done when it first became popular and it was a decision she regrets to this day.
Eyebrow fashions do change, remember when Madonna's thick bushy eyebrows were all the rage in the early 80's or in the early movie days it was the fashion to shave them completely off and draw them on.

Take into consideration that these will be permanant and they will Not look natural, they don't tat them like hairs and after a some years the ink will turn a dark blue. And will they always go with your hair if you decide to change its color?

I wouldn't do it, maybe you could just go have them shaped nice, dyed, and shown how to keep them up. Once they are tattooed there is no going back or changing what has been done.

     i too have been concidering cosmetic tattooing.. but for a much different reason... i have a skin condition called vitiligo..where skin pigment dies and area turns bright white.. in various size patches.
    So, been thinking, there MUST be a way to tattoo a dye that as closely as possible matches my natural skin tone, into the areas. (which are a tiny bit..in corner of my lips... a tiny spot on the right side of my neck... and a much larger spot on left side of neck, curling up under my chin.
     If anyone knows if this is something i can do..or knows a cosmetic tattoo artist that i can chat with.. i would really like to have this taken care of..
     soooo sick of family and friends telling me its hardly noticeable...its not them that has to walk around feeling like a freak.
     and yes.. i DO realize that in summer months.. if i tan.. the tattoo skin tones will still remain lighter... i dont care.. anything is better then the pure albino white they are now!

My brother in law has vitiligo. That's not a bad idea, actually. They do make flesh-toned tattoo inks. Though, in my experience, it may take repeatedly going over the affected areas to achieve the desired tone, since the affected areas are so white to begin with.

I would think a cosmetic tattoo artist wouldn't be necessary, as all it is, basically, is coloring in the "spots". Find a reputable tattoo studio in your area and discuss your idea with the artist. They may be more accomadating than ya think. If you try it, let us know how it works out.

Thanks for your thoughts here :). In my case , I have found as I've gotten older the tail end of them are loosing pigment and thinning. I was blessed with my father's perfect eyebrows. The intent is to fill in where the line has thinned with small hairlike strokes using a brown pigment that they assure me dose not turn blue (I made sure to ask about that as that was my first concern). I'm not sure if I want to do the eyeliner thing. What they do is simply enhance the line at the base of the lashes.

When did you ex have her eyebrows done? (how many years ago)

When did she do them and how do you think they look? I've got eyebrows, just doing maintenance to keep them :)

tatts done on much of the body- the pain is nil.

i know a few tuff guys but too afraid of a tatt. it is not painful

I have to agree with you, to a point, in most cases. However, to play on an old saying, "the closer to the bone...the sweeter the".....pain!
I have 5 my self, and the only exception I have found is is my full arm bands, the back, or underside, of the arms are worse than having one done that is mostly over a bone. Will still get more when I find a design I like, and can afford. Tattoo's are addictive, cant stop with just one.
Sorry, hit the submit button before I finished my thoughts here:
Cosmetic tatts are a whole different matter than normal decorative ones, fashons change so much, so often, it is not something to do without a lot of thought. I can understand having it done, but would rather have the option of having my girl change the color because I want her to, kind of hard to do that if it's a tat, let alone the size, shape color of the eyebrows.
Again sorry for posting before I had finished this, not enough coffe yet this morning and lack of sleep.

Thanks Mrs Shadows.. for writing back.
i have recently gotten my first regular tattoo..a rose, rose bud and butterfly.. down my calve..in April... and i hated every damned min of it..lol took four and half hours for the girl to do, and i had basically fainted within the first few mins of it being started. Still.. i pulled myself together, and sat there for all those hours till it was done.
After it healed, i noticed certain spots didnt have enough ink, so went back, and again i fainted..lol At least it looks great now.
Anyways, while there i had asked the second artist, if he could do the vitiligo spots, and he said he didnt have the right inks, and recomended i try to find a cosmetic tattoo artist... so, here i am.
i KNOW what it feels like, and am rather certain that having my vitiligo spots filled in, is going to prob be much more painful, being on the facial area..so.. i am certain i will faint again, lol but in the end, i think it will be worth it, just to erase those damned white spots.
So,again, id appreciate hearing back from anyone around, that may be a tat artist... or know someone i can chat with, just to see if this is even something possible. Also, anyone with neck,facial tats...along with body tats, was there more pain in the facial ones?

Ive seen them done, and they look gawd aweful. No offense, but as you get older, they will not exactly look the same.

lol... VERY funny domiguy... the whole point of having them filled in.. is to HIDE them... not have a bunch of redish toned spots all over my neck.screaming HERE I AM!

I looked at the picture in your profile and I don't understand why you want to PERMANENTLY mess up what's not broken.

Think Long and hard before you get that kind of ink done.

I had a regular tat for 15 yrs on my left forearm and decided to have it removed.
I now have a huge spiral scar going up my arm. I don't regret either action but
there are lasting consequences

velvetpetal - I would still think long hard before having it done

It's not like going down to the nearest ACE hardware and having paint matched for the
living room. I don't think tattoo artists have the technology to match skin color

i know already that it wont be like matching a paint color..but, even if it is close.. it can only help to hide what right now.. is glaring white spots...

Nobody knows what having vitiligo.. especially in the face area.. does to a woman... i am 36 years old.. i DONT care to spend the rest of my life..having people stare at them..and then quickly pretend they never were..nobody knows how that feels.. unless they have vit or something similar.. i am soooo sick of watching tv infomercials... for all these poor poor women that complain about acne.. ect.. and all the crap they use to fix it up... makes me sick to see a woman whining and pratically crying, because she had zits... give me zits anyday! sheesh
id GLADY trade places.
i tried covering it up.. and went though a ton of money to try different makeups.. but the skin in these areas is super smooth.. and makeup either slides off... or simply does nothing to cover them up.. and i soon learned to hate makeup.
Recently though, i have had better success with mineral based makeups... and what is nice.. is that they are sheer... and doesnt feel like i am wearing any makeup at all!.. big improvement.. over some of the mask like crap i used to goop over them. i simply wanna look normal.. like any OTHER woman alive... and not having to feel like a freak anymore... if that is a prob..for you.. or anyone.. to damned bad.. dont judge me..till you have walked in MY shoes.

i have studied all the other options out there... and i simply dont have the money.. for any of the treatments.. or for the long term care... and.. most of all.. i dont wanna bleach ALL of my skin... to match my white spots... which is a last resort option... no thanks.. id NOT look good looking like casper. So.. a tattoo.. is a fairly cheap option.. with instant results.. that will last. Sounds great to me.

My bangs cover a lot. The outer half are getting lighter and thinning as I age. This will be a very subtle enhancement. I'm getting tired of doing them every morning.

Well, I went in for my patch test today. If I don't have a reaction to the pigment, I'll have my eyeliner done next Tuesday. I opted to do my eyes instead of the brows.

I know a lady who had this type of tattoos done and she was very pleased with the results.

Take my advice on this.... spare yourself the artificial embellishments, you don't need them - Dont waste the cash....you have a very appealing and intrinsic, natural beauty about you that it would make it a waste of time and cash. That can't be said for lots of other women.

The first time it took about 5 days for the swelling to go down enough to look normal and the touch up took 4 for the swelling and redness to go down.

I never had a tattoo in my LIFE, so What do I do? Tattoo my eyelids!!!!

I wish I had a video done of the contortions I went through to defer the pain. (I discovered that I'm endorphin deprived)

It boiled down to me on my back of the massage table, my hands linked across my chest, pulling in opposite directions to divert my attention, while my feet were going up and down in a running motion, topped by me going "gah..gah...gah.." over and over again trying not to downright YELL because on the first session I had scared the little receptionist, who has just started working there, with my loud 'JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZUSSSS!!!!" every so often. I still chuckle when I stopped to pay the bill and she looked at me with wide, saucer eyes and asked... "Did it hurt?"

Either I'm one hell of a bad-ass Domme or an idiot! LOL

Edited to add: The end result was worth the pain. I chose a skilled tech. She uses an organic ink that will simply lighten as the tattoo ages and not turn the typical blue. Eyeliner tattooing isn't like a "makeup" tatoo. It's a line based at the very base of the lashes. As was stated above, styles change.
