I attach a lot of significance to names. My given name's full version is only what I got called when I was in dire shit as a child, so I hate it when any one else uses it! And no, I'm not disclosing it here because some smart ass will start using it to Me LOL! I like one of the common shortened versions, not the other. Since moving into bdsm, I chose a phonetic version of My initial as My Domme name and I am still comfortable with that. Luckily I haven't changed it as I have just been "rediscovered" on these boards by someone I used to chat to about 3 years ago and had lost touch with! I had a couple of potential Masters before I found Master, and each chose a name that reflected part of my personality ... starr because i was His bright light, pristine-rose referring to my English heritage ... and now Master has named me violet for my passionate love of all things purple! Each of those names suited me and made me feel good and special to that person. With Master's permission, I am choosing to use Violet more in the new community W/we have moved to and I really love being called by that name. And I still gaze at the envelope when I see it written *grin*. But I use my given name for official things, banks etc, and professionally too as my academic papers are in that name (probably need to stick with the previous married name for a while too for that reason). Not in the mood to do the complicated deed poll thing at the moment and all the fallout that name changing would bring. I like to re-name My subs if they become regular partners ... still think I came up with the ultimate bdsm male name ... neil ... a name and a command all in one LOL! But neil number 1 was a bit of a pain so I am wary about using that one again! I do try to find a name that suits that person, and I am also fond of looking at foreign languages for inspiration too.
