I thought I would relate a funny story....

I was job hunting today, and I went up to the office that I planned on applying to, and it was closed. There is no sign on the door stating business hours, so I decide to ask the business next to it whether or not they knew what the deal was with the hours that this office would be open...

.... So I go next door, and I see that the sign in the window is neon and says "Massage Therapy", well there are lots of massage therapists in the world, so I walk in the door. There are three girls, ranging from late teens to early 20s. They are dressed in silks and wearing  A LOT of makeup. They are laying around on couches, the room is filled with incense, silk table cloths, and beads... it is a very odd scene for what is supposed to be a professional building. I ask the proprietress (I assume this because she is in her 30s and she is the one that approaches me), and she tells me in broken English that she "don' know nothin' bout no office"...

I have this very odd feeling that I have stumbled upon a house of ill repute, a cat house, a brothel, a den of inequity.. so I tell my Daddy about it, and he says that it sounds as though I have, but the place "could be" legit... so I tell him, "Well Daddy, maybe I should get into 'massage therapy'?"

I can honestly say I have never seen anything like this before in my sheltered existence... and I guess I am pretty sheltered after all...

Ever experience something like this?

The closest massage story I can share is a local businessman was being mmmm massaged in a similar venue, He apparently was massaged too well and had a cardiac arrest on the table. Seeing as how none of the service oriented ladies were certified in CPR (or legally here either) they disappeared chop chop. He didn't make it...neither did the business.

All the businesses with OPEN signs but nothing else are "rub and tugs" or AMPs

Prostitution is an old and noble business, beats many others for integrity, especially law enforcement and insurance.

I agree. My sister and I went shopping later in the day, and I related this story to her, and she was convinced I needed to report it to the police... I just laughed at her.

I delivered pizza to a porno shoot once, but I wasn't cast or given a 'special' tip.

      Good luck on the hunt.

Depends on whatcha mean.  Walking into a massage parlor with a row of painted whores?  Yes.  Applying for a job at an office next to a massage parlor with a row of painted whores?  No.

I mean encountering something like this in an unexpected moment. I had no idea of what I was walking into basically... TheHeretic had a similar experience with delivering pizza on a porn shoot.. it is just something unexpected.

I used to work at a strip joint after school as a kid. Twenty five bucks a week.
That's all I could afford.

Well, there was a big fuss and to-do made over a strip club that iopened around here, because the kiddies had to walk past it on their way to the playground, and might see something they shouldn't.
The kicker is, the playground that they were walking the kids to has the "Gentlemen's Massage Club" right next door.

Nope.  And I made the mistake of telling the story after I got back to the kitchen.  After that, the manager took all the deliveries to that address.

A couple of off duty masseuses (the friendly variety) frequent my favourite bar and as much as I respect their profession, listening to them discuss their clients is funny but rather off putting. Rather like listening to doctors discussing their patients, it makes you not want to go for a check up.

Clearly they exist.  The most famous being those outside of Vegas. I've even bought gift certificates from those places as 18th b-day gifts for relatives.

I think every large city in the nation and some smaller cities have brothels of some sort.
Doesn't make them any more legal.

I've never stumbled into something, but I did get quite a surprise once back in my early 20's.
I was tending bar at a small local hang out owned by a semi locally notorious couple.  The wife
asked me if I would consider going to dinner with her buddie Ralph next time he came to town.
Being the ever ready to please kind even back then said yes.

After dinner sitting in the passenger seat and stopped at a red light all of a sudden Ralph get's out
of the car to get something from the back seat.  Inside I'm freaking thinking Gun...  (another old story)
Ralph retuned to the drivers seat and asked me to close my eyes and hold out a hand.
Now I'm all mind phucked thinking nope, it cant be a gun.... wtf then, as he lay's a vibrating dildo
complete with a rubber into the palm of my hand.  I stared at it a bit (never had seen one before)
then asked what he planned to do with it.  And that's when the story came out.....

It seems all the girls (bartenders) were semi working girls and this was to have been my introduction.
Somehow I found a polite way to say no thank you and he took me home.  If figured the next day
I'd find myself unemployed, again.... but not only did I keep my job I got a pay increase ...
all for saying it wasnt for sale.

Amazing.............  shrug.

Great story, julia!

Back in the day I interviewed at a pizza parlor run by a very dis-reputable looking guy.  He had on tight polyester pants and slick leather boots, a nylon disco shirt open to the navel and loads of gold chains over a very hairy chest.  Topping that off was the cigar smoking and the curly hair on top of his head, oiled to a sheen and multiple gold rings on his fingers.  I don't think he was n the restaurant business on a normal basis, maybe won the place in a poker game or someone used it as collateral for a drug debt.
