I guess you're only allowed to speak about Iraq while wearing the uniform if you support Bush's policies.  Remember when Bush staged a teleconfrence with active duty soldiers in Oct 2005?

Anti-war Iraq vets face punishment over protest

By David Morgan

WASHINGTON, June 1 (Reuters) - The Marine Corps came under fire from a leading U.S. veterans group on Friday for threatening to punish three Iraq combat veterans over their roles in an anti-war demonstration.

The three former Marines, all honorably discharged from active duty, were told they could face disciplinary action for wearing desert fatigues at a March protest in Washington to mark the fourth anniversary of the 2003 Iraq invasion.

Supporters of the ex-Marines say one of them has also been accused of making disparaging remarks about President George W. Bush.

"Someone in the Marine Corps needs to exercise a little common sense," Gary Kurpius, national commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, said in a statement.

"Trying to hush up and punish fellow Americans for exercising the same democratic right we're trying to instill in Iraq is not what we're all about," he said.

A Marine Corps spokesman had no comment on the VFW statement.

Two of the ex-Marines -- 25-year-old Adam Kokesh of Washington and Liam Madden, 22, of Boston -- could lose their military benefits if given an "other than honorary" discharge from reserve service as a disciplinary action.

The third Iraq veteran -- 23-year-old Cloy Richards of Salem, Missouri, who was wounded in combat -- will avoid losing his disability benefits after agreeing not to wear his uniform at future protests, the Marine Corps said.

The Marine Corps contends the men fall under regulations that govern the public conduct of armed service members because they belong to an emergency reserve of former active-duty troops.

But Kurpius, whose organization represents 2.4 million combat veterans, suggested the Marine Corps could be overstepping its jurisdiction.

"We all know that people give up some individual rights when they join the military, but these Marines went to war, did their duty," said Kurpius, himself a Vietnam War veteran.

Kokesh is scheduled to appear before a disciplinary board in Kansas City on Monday. He also has been accused of showing disrespect to a superior officer by responding to a Marine investigator with a profanity.

No proceedings have yet been scheduled for Madden.

[smartass]

I certainly blame her for the massive clusterfuck that AnencephalyBoy is visiting on the military.

After you get discharged, they can call you back up for 4-8 years afterwards, if they feel the need. Usually they don't, but, for example, if all the electricians keep getting shot, and they need electricians, and you were an electrician in the service...

Needs of the service generally tend to overrule what you want.

in a way these vets KNOW better.  be quiet- collect your check- --

consider that militaries have "turned" on their "dictator"- and "overthrew" the regime.

therefore- best not to make noise--- it isnt worth your pension.

Yes, they were in their fatigues, Real One.  Click on the second link in the OP.

They won't hang piece of shits who rape and murder children while wearing the uniform, but go against the KGB's Political Officers, and look what happens...

im not too sure but i think it is ok to wear the uniforms so long as there are no patches or insignia. it gets worse though. if a soldiers wife is found protesting the war the soldier can get in trouble for that too.

You can buy a uniform at most police and military supply companies.  It's not the uniform that obligates you, it's the enlistment contract.

Adam Kokesh is a particlarly difficult person for the Administration to deal with, other than this petty-harassment ( I wonder if this is how the United States Attorneys felt? )

http://kokesh.blogspot.com/

He's got the paperwork posted. Here's PHOTOS of what he did wrong:

These Marines are in what is now called the Individual Ready Reserves in my day it was called the inactive reserves but it is the same thing apparently. You receive no pay and have no meetings or the such. You're required to keep the DoD informed of your address so they can reactivate you if they need to.

While I guess it was a technical violation of the law for them as members of the armed forces to appear at a political activity in uniform it seems awfully petty.

One thing being neglected is that the rumor is the thing that got the unnamed Marine in trouble was calling for unionization of the enlisted military.

a union in the armed forces?  NOw that i would like to see LOLOLOL

No wonder he is in trouble, that is just a wee bit of a contradiction in terms.

As for the protesting in uniform, "in public" it has always been that way...  it was one of the lectures they gave us as a big no no.   Out of uniform they didnt get to excited about it as long as you didnt makje the fact you were in the armed forces a center piece atraction.

Sort of grey area when it comes to dissent in the armed forces and gets a bit iffy.
