Laughing...won't be long before Alaska Republicans start petitioning for federal disaster relief...

I was reading something from one scientist who says even if it is caused by man, that we passed the point of no return on global warming more than a decade ago. And there is no way to reverse it now since there is no way to get the greenhouse gases that are already in the atmosphere out.

$10 billion stretched over decades.  I don't suppose they calculated any offsets from things like maybe an extended tourist season or a climate where crops might grow a bit better...

Hello LAM,

I was just reading this article, and found this point very important -

" Permanently frozen ground, or permafrost, covers nearly two-thirds of the massive state but buildings, pipelines, roads and bridges crumble as it melts, he said at this week's meeting in Belize of Arctic peoples and tropical islanders who are suffering the worst effects of global warming. "

One of their senators is known by the nickname King Of Pork.

Alaska's residents receive $1.08 for every $1.00 they pay in Federal Taxes.

I say we stop subsidizing them and instead teach them how to grow lower latitude crops.  Their senators did
vote against all that gibberish trying to deal with global warming and all.

Freaking whiners.

Sure sinergy, give us the Parks and Federal lands you pay to manage up here, and we will gladly quit paying taxes to you.  Simnply giving us ANWR back will easily pay for all of our needs and then some.  Probably don't really want to do that though do you?

Well, I am more than interested in paying for the Federal lands.  I never wanted us down here to take ANWR away from you.  I am one of those ridiculous liberal types who would rather Elk have a good life in ANWR than my being able to drive to work that extra week or so that strip mining it for oil shale would give us.

I assume you supported the Bridge To Nowhere?

Alaska is a state in a federal union.  If you don't want to pay federal tax, secede.

Oh, too bad...you can't.

Let's be fair here, folks: Alaska is hardly the only state to benefit from porcine politics.

TheHeretic -> RE: Global warming may cost Alaska $10 billion (5/29/2007 8:59:24 PM)

I heard a little factoid the other day that if Manhattan had the population density of Alaska, four (4) people would live there.  I'm pretty sure an expanding population (drawn by a more tolerable climate) is going to want better roads and wider bridges anyway.

Since June 30, 1958, to be exact.
