shouldn't be taught phonix, which is a teaching method where people "sound out" how to read and spell. this doesn't work as well with people whose dialect is very tainted from the root langauge, well truely, it doesn't work well in the English language, but it's used none the less. i thought "husband" was spelled "h-u-s-b-i-n" for the longest time[:)] phoenix

If people were taught proper pronuncitation and enunciation, there would be no problem with teaching language through the use of phonics.  Phonics is, in essence, learning language by learning what phonemes are represented by certain letters, and it works well for many languages so long as one is speaking clearly.  Phonix is a misspelling of phoenix.

Just had to get that off my chest.

thanks for all the replies, i was watching that piticular show (History of Sex)and that's what got me thinking on the matter. first hand i've been a student for some time. a lot of people my age are going to college, though i doubt it would ever fit into the lifestyle my Mate and i will have til His retirement. but still, i wonder if i did go, what possibly could hold my attention...and sence no one seemed certain about a fixed (uh,,, word for set classes that can get you a big fancy degree) it seems that someone should take all the classes possible and become a doctor/professor of sex and then set up a college (university?) of sex. why not? kids go to college to get laid, and no one would ever forget to do their homework...
oh yeah, i got my GED in arkansas. well, things are kinda wierd with education there, and i needn't say much more than that on the subject[;)] i applied to the army in '04, took my asvab, and then the navy and air force wanted to give me waivers to recruit me, alas, no one wanted me after they found out what i was allergic to.... oh the rejection!
   thanks again- phoenix[:)]

I'll bite.  What are you allergic to?

phoenixinchains -> RE: Major Sex? (5/29/2007 5:02:20 AM)

hmm, have i proved my point with out knowing it? i don't mean that in a sarcastic way, just wonering to myself. i'm horrid at spelling. [:)] i really only learn how to spell by remembering how things are spelled in books. phonics isn't a word i've seen often. but i meant myself as a prime example of it's failure, making a little joke on myself. but then, one could aurgue that each person learns a different way. but maybe the arguement of tomato or tomatoe will be going on forever.
and connecting this subject to the original, why are the langauges rooted in latin called "romance languages"?

In Arkansas, I have found that it uncanny how many folks appear to be allergic to going to the Dentist.

I was wondering what exactly does the GED test look like in Arkansas?

phoenixinchains -> RE: Major Sex? (5/29/2007 5:43:25 AM)

okay,
1, my allergy i didn't think note-worthy, but since you asked, i'm allergic to a sanitizing powder now rarely used on latex products. i was rejected for military service because if i contact the powder, i stop breathing. the reaction got me the boot, not the allergin.
2, i don't know what to say about the states' reguard of dentist, but mine made me cry. he was mean. lol, and only my Mate can treat me that way. my Mate said He'd take me to a better one, so W/we went to oklahoma.
3, the GED looks like a document and reads Arkansas High School Diploma. the testing looks like a bunch of people writing on big stacks of paper. thankfully arkansas has pretty leagle documents. i'm almost certain i spelled that wrong.

"why are the langauges rooted in latin called "romance languages"?"

Latin was the official language in the Roman Empire......so not that sort of 'romance' with flowers and stuff.....more the sort of romance with underfloor heating and good military tactics.

phoenixinchains -> RE: Major Sex? (5/29/2007 9:09:15 AM)

i guess romance languages is easier to say than roman languages. thank you, i'd have gone forever never conecting those brain cells .

Personally not a week goes by without me slapping my forehead and castigating myself for not seeing a connection [8|]
