New museum says dinosaurs were on Noah's Ark

By Andrea Hopkins

PETERSBURG, Ky (Reuters) - Like many modern museums, the newest U.S. tourist attraction includes some awesome exhibits -- roaring dinosaurs and a life-sized ship.

But only at the Creation Museum in Kentucky do the dinosaurs sail on the ship -- Noah's Ark, to be precise.

The Christian creators of the sprawling museum, unveiled on Saturday, hope to draw as many as half a million people each year to their state-of-the-art project, which depicts the Bible's first book, Genesis, as literal truth.

While the $27 million museum near Cincinnati has drawn snickers from media and condemnation from U.S. scientists, those who believe God created the heavens and the Earth in six days about 6,000 years ago say their views are finally being represented.

...

Here exhibits show the Grand Canyon took just days to form during Noah's flood, dinosaurs coexisted with humans and had a place on Noah's Ark, and Cain married his sister to people the earth, among other Biblical wonders.

...

A Gallup poll last year showed almost half of Americans believe that humans did not evolve but were created by God in their present form within the last 10,000 years.

Three of 10 Republican presidential candidates said in a recent debate that they did not believe in evolution.

OMG.  ROFL.   Can I get a T-shirt?  I'll hang it right next to the one from the 24 Hour Church of Elvis.

I dunno if I'd get out of there alive, but this is SO on the to-do list for that great cross-country road trip.

It's funny: I recently read a piece in some science magazine (can't remember which, alas) by an atheist scientist who'd visited the museum. He said he was burning to dis it, but that everything was so carefully phrased as just a thoery that he actually found little to disagree with!

It would be interesting to know how they handle the fact the Genesis has two conflicting creation accounts. In Genesis 1, God makes animals before humans; in Genesis 2 God makes them afterwards, to keep us company. Surely that's a tip-off that we're not dealing with a scientific text.

So, first the fossil record is there because of demonic anticipation as a means of leading mankind astray..... now it seems the dinosaurs were on the ark?

Sorry. Surely if dinosaurs were on the ark, it might be mentioned as to how this was accomplished with a vessel barely capable of accomodating the fauna of the day and the region, let alone the fauna of the rest of the earth and throughout time.

Also very interested to know how the curators know exactly how the dinosaurs looked for their exhibit - not the forms so much but the colourings etc, which perhaps may have varied according to sex let alone across a species.

Is Najak in the house? Its just I wonder how Noah might have gone about sexing tyrannosaurs in order to have both male and female on the ark?

Well, there is the theory that Joseph's coat of many colors was actually a Pink Floyd t-shirt.

For years in Australia we have had a saying which covers things like this; "Only in America".

"It's funny: I recently read a piece in some science magazine (can't remember which, alas) by an atheist scientist who'd visited the museum. He said he was burning to dis it, but that everything was so carefully phrased as just a thoery that he actually found little to disagree with! "

The first thing I would be doing is checking the background of this "scientist" and "atheist". Actually the first thing would be to check the magazine and if it is in fact scientific or it just has science in it's name for marketing purposes. Noahs ark, and especially dinosaurs on it is pure fantasy. It doesn't even reach the level of theory. It takes more than a night of drinking to make a theory.

"Surely that's a tip-off that we're not dealing with a scientific text. "

Along with the ark, dinosaurs and a god.

I find it shocking that you are so certain that Noah (who built the ark) would not have access to the net.

Found the article and realized that I've made a mistake. The author is a journalist, not a scientist. Still a fun read, though.

obviously , not one of the 1/3 believers that one.

Furthermore, I am beneath Noah's contempt.

You almost have to feel sorry for the purists in the Creationism community, they really do have fewer and fewer straws to grasp at as the years go by. As for so called Intelligent Design, just ask any woman who has given birth how intelligent was it to make women pass a large object through a small hole. Oh right, I forgot, they’re being punished for eating fruit.

Interesting. I often hear the Creationists dismiss evolution as "just" a theory (proving that they don’t know – perhaps deliberately – the difference between a theory and a hypothesis), yet they feel they have to give a scientific sheen (by calling their articles of faith theories) to their own beliefs in order to protect their faith from science.

Actually, the bible is riddled with contradictions and conflicting accounts. "The Bible Against Itself," by Randel McCraw Helms is a good read on this subject. Also "The Making of the Messiah," by Robert Sheaffer.

Years ago I had a co-worker who was a full blown, "the Bible is the unerring word of God," fundamentalist and he asserted that, yes, Satan himself personally went around the earth and planted the fossils in order to deceive mankind.

Well that sure does explain a few things... like why no one can find a single Pegasus, Harpy, Basilisk, Centaur, Elf, Fairy, Gnome, Cerberus, Dragon, Goblin, Hydra, Imp, Griffin, Leprechaun or Smurf.

The T-Rex couple had to have something to eat.
